Job Description
About Flash Pack:
When was the last time you made a new friend? The quality of your relationships is the single most important factor for your mental health. Travel has a unique ability to fast-forward the friendship-making process, which is why we’re on a mission to create one million meaningful friendships using the power of travel and technology as a platform for human connection.
We create curated social adventures for solo travellers in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Since launching in 2014, we’ve seen impressive year-on-year growth and become the category leader in a thriving, rapidly expanding market with the majority of our business now in the US.
We’re well-funded, we’ve shaken up an outdated industry, and we see ourselves as a friendship company far more than a travel company. Our culture is down-to-earth, hard-working and compassionate, built by exceptional people who care deeply about doing work we’re proud of.
You can find out more about our culture and life at Flash Pack here.
The Role:
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Growth engineering work, supporting and coaching engineers while remaining hands-on as a player-coach. You’ll be working closely with Product and Marketing to shape, build, and learn from growth initiatives that drive acquisition, conversion, and retention.
You’ll help turn ideas into momentum: shaping experiments, shipping full-stack changes quickly, and using real customer behaviour to decide what to double down on or drop. You’ll write production code alongside the team while guiding technical direction, unblocking progress, and translating messy growth problems into focused, high-leverage work.
If you’re motivated by experimentation, measure success by outcomes rather than output, and enjoy balancing hands-on building with enabling others to do their best work, this role offers autonomy, fast feedback loops, and a direct connection between what you ship and how the business grows.
In line with our salary framework, the salary for this role is £90,000 to £110,000 p.a. depending on experience. We also offer stock options after your first year with the company.
Where you will spend your time:
Build and ship growth features end-to-end as a hands-on contributor (roughly 50% of the role), primarily using React and TypeScript, alongside the team.
Line-manage a small group of Growth Engineers, supporting delivery, coaching, and ongoing development through regular feedback and clear expectations.
Lead the technical execution of growth initiatives: shaping experiments, scoping work, sequencing delivery, and keeping the team aligned on outcomes.
Partner closely with Product, Marketing, and Design to turn growth hypotheses into shippable experiments and learn quickly from results.
Set and uphold standards for code quality, experimentation, analytics, and maintainability across the growth codebase.
Act as the connective tissue for the team: removing blockers, resolving trade-offs, and ensuring knowledge, ownership, and context are shared rather than siloed.
What we'd love to see from you:
Hands-on engineering background, with experience line-managing engineers or a strong desire to move into a player-coach role.
Strong technical judgement across a modern web stack, with the ability to contribute production code, review critically, and guide technical trade-offs.
Comfort translating ambiguous growth problems into focused execution, aligning engineers and non-technical partners around clear outcomes.
Proven ability to support and develop engineers, through regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching, and setting clear expectations.
Product and impact-minded, with a desire to influence what gets built — not just how — while encouraging the same mindset in others.
Calm, empathetic, and direct communicator, able to build trust across engineering, product, marketing, and design.
(Optional) Experience leading growth-oriented work, including experimentation, measurement, and AB testing is a bonus.
Interview Process 🛠️:
Our interviews take place on Google Meet and usually consist of the following stages:
Introductory chat with our talent team to see if there is a match between your skills and values and that of Flash Pack (30-45 mins)
A competency and skills-based interview with the hiring manager and a key stakeholder to hear more about your background and experience and to give you a deep dive into the role (45-60 mins)
A take-home task relating to the role with the hiring manager and a key stakeholder to see how you’d solve a problem and present this back to the team (~60 mins)
Meet with one of our founders for any final questions you or we have (45-60 mins)
