Job Description

✨ The most exciting parts

  • Positive impact through product work 🙌 We strongly believe in the social impact of Figures - creating transparency & fairness around compensation and reducing market inequalities like the gender pay gap (check out this Sifted article, powered by Figures).
  • Product-centric team AND technical challenges ⚙️ You’ll serve the product and will keep things as simple as possible to deliver a top-notch user experience. The challenge is huge, as compensation is a very complex topic, and making things simple and that scale is complicated!
  • Strong ownership, quick personal growth & huge impact 🚀 Our company's early stage offers lots of responsibilities and opportunities to learn & grow.
  • Great teammates & work environment 🙏🏽 We take our “Why so serious?” value seriously, offer a ton of flexibility, and work a 9-day-fortnight.
  • Taking risks means high rewards 🤑 Your equity grant will have a big potential financial upside.

🔮 About us - Easy collaboration for fair compensation decisions

Created in October 2020 by Virgile & Bastien, Figures is Europe's leading compensation management platform, helping companies to make fair and efficient salary decisions.

We do that by providing them with reliable up-to-date (real-time) compensation data and the right tooling to manage their compensation process and get rid of spreadsheets.

As of today, we are a team of around 30 people, helping 800 companies all over Europe (with France, the UK and Germany being our core markets). We raised €6.8m in September 2022 to accelerate our expansion.

Our goal is now two-fold:

  • Cement our position as the main European compensation platform.
  • Continue to expand our product to compensation management as a whole - We’ve just launched our new Compensation Review module, learn more about it here 🙌

Here is a short video about our mission & product 👇

🛠️ Your role & responsibilities

  • Product engineering: you’ll have high ownership of your projects, from the business definition of the need to the conception and development of the new features and the run/maintenance (and beyond).
  • Technical aspects: you’ll make sure our product can scale and handle clients with thousands of employees so that our user experience stays top-notch.
  • Culture & processes: you’ll contribute to consolidating and developing our product & technical culture. You’ll improve our methods & processes (e.g. documentation, tests, CI, DevOps aspects, tooling).
  • Team mentoring: you’ll lead by example as we build transparently, in a public-first mode. We ship qualitative code but we are pragmatic about it.

💻 Our technical stack:

  • TypeScript, Node.js, React.
  • Next.js hybrid fullstack application.
  • Prisma with PostgreSQL.
  • AWS, Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Datadog, June, Metabase, Linear, Github.

🧩 What we look for

  • Senior to Staff level: you have at least 7 years of experience in software engineering & web development (and there is no upper limit).
  • Previous experience in a startup.
  • Fullstack mindset: we are a team of fullstack engineers. That said, we welcome preferences and expertise and we will try to accommodate them as much as possible.
  • Strong technical skills & ownership: you have experience making architectural choices, designing features and running what you built.
  • Strong business acumen: you understand the business and have the capacity to leverage technology for impact.
  • Alignment with our Engineering Operating Principles.
  • Alignment with our values: you have a strong sense of ownership, you are pragmatic & you are at ease to give and receive feedback (while not taking yourself too seriously!).
  • Fluent in French AND English (C1 level).
  • You are based in France, the UK or Germany (or willing to relocate).
  • You are comfortable working remotely.

This role is not for you if:

  • You are solely interested in technical challenges (as we want to keep things as simple as possible).
  • You are willing to work with clear specifications (good specs at Figures = problem defined + broad solution to the problem - but not something ready to be implemented).
  • You are willing to only produce clean & ultra-tested code (we need to go fast and make trade-offs).

💰 Compensation & Perks 🎁

We’ve been Flexified, so you can trust that we’re a truly flexible workplace. More details here!

  3. Premium Health Insurance & Pension. Each country has its specificities.
  4. €5 Daily Meal Vouchers. It’s a very French thing, everyone will enjoy this benefit!

  8. Access to moka.care to help you take care of your mental health.
  9. Chronic illness leave: to support those who may suffer from chronic illness (such as endometriosis, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, etc.), we give them the flexibility to have an additional monthly leave to be used at their discretion.
  10. Maternity & parental leave: our basis is the French market minimum, but if you’re in a country with better ones, we’ll align your perks on it, hoping that someday we’ll all be aligned to German standards. 🙌 On top of that:

👉🏼 1-month parental leave for the second parent paid at 100% of the salary.

👉🏼 1-month worked part-time (50%) but paid at 100% when returning from maternity leave.
