Job Description

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

Manager, WAM, Risk & Regulatory Advisory

EY's Financial Services practice is a unique industry focused business unit that provides a broad range of integrated services to financial institutions and other capital markets participants, including commercial banks, investment banks, broker dealers, asset managers, insurance and energy trading companies.

EY UK's Wealth & Asset Management Risk & Regulation Team works across the wealth and asset management market with a diverse portfolio of clients. We help them strengthen risk and compliance, deliver regulatory change and transform how their risk and compliance functions operate, increasingly using data, automation and AI.

The Wealth & Asset Management Risk & Regulation Team focuses on delivering lasting benefits to our clients by helping them make better business decisions through more effective, efficient and forward-looking risk and compliance management.

The opportunity

Our objective is to be the market leader in supporting the CRO and CCO agenda. The sector is changing quickly. Firms face new regulation, closer scrutiny of their capital and liquidity, pressure on margins, consolidation through M&A and platform change, and the arrival of AI in both the front office and the control functions. That makes this an exciting time to join us.

The Wealth & Asset Management Risk & Regulation Team offers both breadth and depth across Regulatory, Compliance, Prudential and Risk Management initiatives. Our work ranges from regulatory change programmes, regulatory due diligence on transactions and targeted advice on specific parts of the Conduct, Prudential and Risk Management Frameworks, through to large Risk and Compliance Transformation programmes that redesign operating models, modernise controls and put technology and AI to work, collaborating with multiple EY teams.

As a Manager, you'll be a key part of how we deliver this work. You'll lead teams day to day, hold confident conversations with client stakeholders and work closely with our Senior Managers, Directors and Partners to shape great outcomes for clients.

Your key responsibilities
As a Manager within the Wealth & Asset Management Risk and Regulatory Advisory team, you'll play a leading role on engagements such as:

  • Helping firms navigate the next wave of regulatory change, such as reforms to the advice guidance boundary, value for money and FCA thematic reviews
  • Helping firms respond to FCA actions and requests, including Skilled Person Reviews and remediation programmes
  • Supporting firms on prudential and capital adequacy, including ICARA processes, own funds and liquidity assessments, stress testing and wind down planning
  • Regulatory due diligence on transactions, helping buyers and investors understand the risk and regulatory position of a target
  • Funds regulation in the UK and Europe, including fund and legal entity authorisations
  • Designing and transforming risk and compliance operating models, including target state design, compliance monitoring and delivery
  • Designing and reviewing end to end risk management frameworks, including governance, risk appetite, RCSAs, control environments, investment risk and risk MI and reporting
  • Using data, automation and AI to make risk and compliance more efficient and insight driven, such as automated controls testing, monitoring and surveillance
  • Helping firms govern their own use of AI responsibly, with frameworks that keep humans in the lead
  • Risk culture, and embedding ownership so that controls work in practice as well as on paper

You will:

  • Shape EY findings, conclusions and recommendations, and present them with confidence in client conversations
  • Lead the analysis of emerging issues and help develop EY points of view and propositions
  • Lead teams day to day, managing workstreams and supporting engagement planning and delivery alongside senior team members
  • Bring AI tools into how your teams deliver, so they work smarter and bring fresh insight to clients
  • Build strong relationships with client stakeholders, and contribute to bids, proposals and the growth of existing relationships
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, conduct performance reviews and contribute to their development

Skills and attributes for success

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong project management experience
  • Ability to prioritise and challenge
  • Strong academic background
  • Ability to build networks and relationships
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing and client presentations
  • Have a proactive attitude.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Risk, compliance and/or prudential experience gained at a major asset manager, wealth manager, platform or intermediary, or delivering risk and regulatory services at another advisory firm
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management frameworks in wealth and asset managers
  • Up to date knowledge of the conduct and prudential regulatory environment affecting wealth and asset managers
  • Experience of leading small teams or workstreams and working directly with client stakeholders
  • Excellent stakeholder management, report writing and presentation skills

Ideally you will also have:

  • Experience of transformation, operating model or regulatory change programmes
  • Exposure to regulatory due diligence, funds regulation or regulatory reporting
  • Exposure to the UK prudential regime for investment firms, such as ICARA and MIFIDPRU
  • Interest in, or exposure to, AI, data or automation in a risk or compliance setting
  • Ability to prioritise and challenge
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development

What we look for
We are looking for people with a real passion for risk and regulation who want to accelerate their careers in Wealth & Asset Management. You'll enjoy helping firms manage risk well, meet their conduct and prudential obligations and turn regulatory change into better outcomes for their business and customers. You'll be confident leading teams, forming a view and challenging constructively in client conversations, and you'll want real opportunities for personal and professional growth.

What we offer
We offer a competitive remuneration package where you’ll be rewarded for your individual and team performance. Our comprehensive Total Rewards package includes support for flexible working and career development, and with MyReward you can select benefits that suit your needs, covering holidays, health and well-being, insurance, savings and a wide range of discounts, offers and promotions. Plus, we offer:
