This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious individual to join EY’s Global Trade team, with a focus on assisting clients with trade and customs policies.

Customs and Trade is a highly dynamic area with complex and unpredictable policy changes for businesses around the world. Our clients need our support with understanding what these policies mean for their business and how to thrive in such environment.

Your key responsibilities

The successful individual will be using their policy knowledge and experience, converting them into practical propositions and offerings for businesses. They will be collaborating with our global EY network including Tax and non-Tax SMEs. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build and expand their corporate network.

Specifically, you will be

  • Monitoring and tracking trade agreements, net working with relevant think tanks and organisations to maintain real-time knowledge of trade policies
  • Interpret and evaluate trade policies and apply them to clients’ practical scenarios
  • Identify market and business opportunities, such as advocacy, scenario planning, impact analysis. You will also be driving the development of propositions such as corporate strategy related to trade and customs, and defining competitive advantage for clients
  • Lead internal and external facing webcasts and seminars, network with colleagues in Tax and non-Tax departments at EY to expand market presence
  • Work with fellow team members in the Global Trade including data SMEs and technology SMEs to create comprehensive service offerings for clients

Skills and Attributes for success

What we look for

  • Proven experience in businesses, government, or non-government organisations where trade policies are your key focus.
  • Solid knowledge of trade agreements around the world, especially those related to the UK and EU.
  • Strong ability converting legislation to practical guidance for commercial organisations. It is critical that you are able to ‘translate’ detailed legislation into information for audience less familiar with the laws.
  • Demonstration of commercial acumen, e.g. able to identify commercial propositions for clients.
  • Ability to communicate with confidence, credibility, and professionalism, both written and verbal.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude and a sense of urgency to stay on top of complex and evolving regulations.
  • Ability to network independently with internal and external stakeholders.

Ideally, you’ll also have

Ideally, you would also be experienced and comfortable dealing with data, and can demonstrate strong analytical skills.

Although the focus is trade and customs policies, any knowledgeable and experience in areas such as sanctions, export control regulations, and environmental taxes are also helpful.
