Job Description

Part time - Working Pattern: Four days per week

This role is a senior, hands-on role responsible for shaping and establishing Emerald’s intelligent automation and AI capability. Emerald does not currently have an RPA or automation platform, so a key part of this role is to assess organisational needs, evaluate tooling options and build a clear and well-evidenced business case for investment. This includes analysing opportunity areas, comparing solutions, modelling benefits and working with Technology, Architecture and Finance to recommend the right approach for Emerald.

Alongside this strategic work, the specialist will design, prototype and deliver early automation and AI-enabled solutions using low code and no code tools, helping demonstrate value and build organisational confidence. Working closely with the Change and Enablement Lead, the role will support colleagues in adopting digital ways of working, build capability in citizen development and help shape a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

There are no line management responsibilities, but the role provides coaching, guidance and mentoring to colleagues involved in localised improvement and automation activities.

Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.

About our Recruitment Process: We welcome applications from all individuals, irrespective of age, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, or belief. As we understand the value of the transferability of skills and experiences, we are not looking for the 'perfect candidate' – we encourage everyone who is truly excited about our mission to apply.

We receive a high volume of interest in our roles and may close applications early if we reach capacity. We strongly recommend applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
If you require additional time to complete your application due to accessibility needs or other circumstances, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re happy to support you.

Day to day we’ll trust you to:

  • Identify opportunities where automation and AI can deliver value and improve efficiency.
  • Build business cases and recommendations for investment in RPA and automation tools.
  • Design and prototype automation solutions using low code and no code platforms.
  • Develop early AI-enabled tools and proof-of-concepts that support business needs.
  • Work with colleagues to understand requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
  • Support adoption through user guidance, training and ongoing engagement.
  • Build capability across the organisation by coaching colleagues on low code, AI and automation methods.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and lead pilots that demonstrate potential value.
  • Improve existing digital workflows and advise on scaling automation, tooling and governance.

You’ll need to have:

Personal Skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability with the skill to simplify complexity and design pragmatic solutions.
  • A confident communicator able to explain technical concepts in clear, accessible language.
  • Able to build trust and work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and driving delivery.
  • Curious, creative and proactive in exploring new digital and AI opportunities.
  • Supportive and empathetic when coaching colleagues with varying levels of technical confidence.

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Proven experience delivering RPA, automation or process optimisation solutions in a business or technology environment.
  • Experience assessing, selecting or contributing to the implementation of automation or RPA platforms.
  • Skilled in low code or no code tools such as Power Platform.
  • Familiarity with AI capabilities such as generative AI tools or AI-enabled workflows.
  • Experience analysing business processes, gathering requirements and designing digital workflows.
  • Ability to build prototypes, test ideas quickly and iterate based on feedback.
  • Experience supporting or training users on digital tools, automation solutions or process improvement methods.
  • Comfortable working in environments where automation and AI contribute to broader transformation activity.
