Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your role:

As a Senior HSE Manager, you will lead the strategic direction of health, safety and environmental (HSE) compliance across Centrica’s Power business unit, shaping the culture, systems, and behaviours that underpin safe and sustainable operations. You’ll champion a proactive approach to risk management, ensuring that HSE considerations are embedded in day‑to‑day activities as well as long‑term planning.

Working closely with operational leaders, you’ll also drive continuous improvement, strengthen regulatory compliance, and support the delivery of Centrica’s wider strategic objectives through robust HSE governance and leadership.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Set and deliver the HSE strategy for the Power business unit, ensuring alignment with Centrica’s objectives and regulatory obligations.

  • Lead, develop, and support a team of HSE professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.

  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing enhancement of HSE management systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Conduct and review improvement plans, risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring root causes are addressed and lessons shared.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE legislation, standards, and recognised best practice.

  • Provide expert HSE advice to senior leaders and operational teams.

  • Drive contractor HSE management, ensuring strong governance and performance oversight.

  • Develop and deliver HSE training and engagement programmes for employees and contractors.

  • Monitor, analyse, and report on HSE performance, using data and insights to inform decisions and drive improvements.

  • Represent Centrica in external forums, regulatory engagements, and industry groups as required.

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • Degree (desired) in Health, Safety, Environment, Engineering or a related scientific discipline.

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety (essential); chartered status (or working towards) with IOSH or similar body (desirable).

  • IOSH membership with evidence of ongoing CPD.

  • Significant experience in a senior HSE leadership role, ideally within energy, utilities, or construction.

  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and manage organisational change.

  • Strong knowledge of UK/Irish HSE legislation, management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001), and industry best practice.

  • Demonstrated experience in incident investigation, risk management, and delivering measurable HSE improvements.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience managing contractor HSE performance and compliance.
