The Senior Finance Analyst role focuses on providing support to the Financial Controller, UK&I and Financial Controller Centrica Business Solutions (CBS), to ensure that the highest standards of financial control are applied across UK&I.

The role holder will have allocated responsibilities for financial accounting, financial controls, financial governance and financial integrity within UK&I, including supporting large finance systems implementation and data migration projects.

The role holder will provide the Financial Controller, UK&I and Financial Controller, CBS Services with robust and accurate financial reporting of current and historical performance UK&I Services. Working with the business teams, facilitating interaction and knowledge transfer where required between the business teams and wider finance teams.

We offer hybrid working based out of our Stockport or Windsor office.

The Job role:

  • Produce accounting & reporting of current/historical activity across UK&I Services and Central CBS segments, including performance of all month end and post-month end accounting activities primarily for the Service P&L

  • Support the Financial Controller, UK&I Services and Financial Controller, Services and their wider teams to review and report performance of UK&I Services against Group Annual Plan & latest forecast

  • Undertake risk management activities, feeding back findings to the Financial Controller, UK&I and actively leading projects to enhance risk management and financial control activities within the department

  • Understand and apply the appropriate Centrica accounting policies for UK&I Services, including detailed knowledge of IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 to accurately account for customer contracts

  • Support the twice-yearly external audit of UK&I Services and the annual preparation of statutory accounts

  • Work with the business to drive reporting improvements to enhance understanding of financial data

  • Identify opportunities for simplification, automation and integration of financial systems and data and actively engage with internal automation and service management teams to drive efficiency and standardisation

  • Support finance system enhancement programs and data migration in the UK as part of the CBS systems strategy

  • Develop deep understanding of key drivers of revenue and costs, cashflow, and risks and opportunities and be conversant with the translation of commercial issues into financial impacts

  • Support Transformation activities through delivery of changes to financial control methodologies, to drive greater understanding, efficiency and standardisation

  • Leverage Office 365 applications to transform month-end file structure and journal process and create engaging and insightful information and messaging

  • Deputise for Financial Controller, UK&I when required.

The Person:

  • Hold an accounting qualification (could be working towards completion or brecently qualified)

  • Previous financial control experience within a large organisation including:

    • Experience of month-end close activities and external audit

    • Communication of analysis and insight

    • Track record of process improvement and automation

  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and other related technical accounting standards

  • Working knowledge of risk management, financial control and audit processes

  • Ability to pro-actively develop positive and highly effective working relationships

  • Motivated by continuous improvement and delivering high quality outputs with the ability to identify a problem and think through an approach to develop a solution

  • Competent user of accounting systems

  • Experience of providing commercial analysis and evaluation - expertise in developing and maintaining models, and analysing and manipulating large volumes of data to provide insight

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to summarise complex matters and communicate effectively

  • Capable of managing multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment and working to tight deadlines.
