Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

We’re driving one of the most exciting and ambitious transformations programmes to help us achieve our 2030 vision. That Centrica will be a company with world-class talent delivering exceptional service, products and solutions to all our customers. A company our competitors can’t catch, no matter what they do.

We’re looking for talented and experienced Programme Delivery Directors to help lead the way.

These are critical roles within Centrica’s Group Transformation function, responsible for leading, supporting and owning complex, high-impact programmes that transform how we serve customers, operate our business, and enable a sustainable energy future.

You will lead the end-to-end delivery of major transformation portfolios, working directly with Group Executives, Managing Directors, and senior functional leaders to ensure programmes are well-structured, well-governed, and deliver real value.

Location: UK, Flexible

What You’ll Be responsible for

  • Leading large, complex transformation portfolios spanning customer operations, digital platforms, technology modernisation, operating model redesign, and regulatory change.

  • Translating Group strategy into clear, prioritised delivery roadmaps, managing pace, interdependencies, risk, and value.

  • Setting and enforcing enterprise-level governance, assurance, and delivery standards, ensuring benefits are realised — not just promised.

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to Executives and Board-level stakeholders, providing confidence, challenge, and insight on delivery performance.

  • Building and leading a high-performing community of Programme Managers, embedding consulting-grade ways of working and delivery discipline.

  • Managing relationships with consultancies, system integrators, and delivery partners, ensuring pace, accountability, and value for money.

  • Ensuring transformation outcomes are embedded into the business, not left as standalone programmes.

About You

What we’re looking for

We’re deliberately looking for candidates with a strong external consulting background who can bring fresh perspective, structured thinking, and delivery excellence into a complex enterprise environment.

You’re likely to have:

  • Experience at Senior Manager or Associate Partner level in a leading management consultancy or specialist transformation consultancy.

  • A track record of leading large-scale transformation programmes or portfolios (£50m–£200m+) across multiple clients, sectors, or business units.

  • Deep experience operating as a senior client advisor, influencing C-suite and Board-level stakeholders.

  • Strong capability in governance, assurance, benefits realisation, and delivery confidence.

  • The ability to step into new organisational contexts quickly and drive outcomes at pace.

  • Experience within regulated or customer-facing industries (energy, utilities, financial services, telecoms, retail) is advantageous, but not essential.

Skills & Capabilities

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a combination of consulting-grade thinking, enterprise delivery leadership, and the confidence to operate at the most senior levels of a complex organisation.

You’ll be highly effective if you demonstrate:

  • Structured problem-solving and analytical rigour – able to break down complex, ambiguous transformation challenges, assess options quickly, and drive clear, evidence-based decisions.

  • Strong executive presence and influence – comfortable engaging with ExCo and Board-level stakeholders, able to challenge constructively, frame trade-offs clearly, and build confidence in delivery.

  • Portfolio-level delivery leadership – experienced in shaping, sequencing, and governing multiple programmes in parallel, managing interdependencies, risk, and value across large transformation portfolios.

  • Commercial and financial acumen – able to link delivery decisions to investment cases, benefits realisation, cost-to-serve, and long-term value, with confidence managing material budgets and trade-offs.

  • Governance, assurance, and delivery discipline – skilled at establishing and operating clear governance frameworks, performance reporting, and assurance mechanisms that enable pace without sacrificing control.

  • Leadership of senior delivery talent – able to coach, develop, and challenge Programme Managers and senior leaders, setting high standards and building a high-performing delivery community.

  • Adaptability and pace – comfortable stepping into new, complex organisational contexts and driving outcomes quickly without needing extensive orientation or direction.

  • Stakeholder and partner management – experienced in leading complex relationships with consultancies, system integrators, and senior suppliers, holding partners to account for outcomes and value.

  • Change and adoption mindset – focused not just on delivery milestones, but on ensuring transformation outcomes are embedded, sustained, and owned by the business.

  • Above all, you’ll bring the mindset of someone who has operated in high-expectation consulting environments: outcome-focused, resilient under pressure, intellectually curious, and motivated by solving hard problems at scale.

Why move from consulting to Centrica?

This is not an advisory role. You’ll have:

  • Real ownership of delivery outcomes, not just recommendations

  • Executive and Board exposure within a FTSE-listed organisation

  • Accountability for £100m+ transformation investment

  • The opportunity to shape how transformation is delivered, not just run programmes

  • The scale and complexity you’re used to — with the ability to see change land and stick

For many senior consultants, this role represents a natural next step: less slideware, more impact.
