Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

We’re driving one of the most exciting and ambitious transformations programmes to help us achieve our 2030 vision. That Centrica will be a company with world-class talent delivering exceptional service, products and solutions to all our customers.

Centrica is strengthening its enterprise transformation capability and we’re looking for Programme Delivery Directors to join us.

We're looking for someone who has taken a leading role in delivering major transformation programmes and can demonstrate personal accountability for outcomes.

You’ll take accountability for some of our most important and complex transformations, turning strategic ambition into measurable customer, commercial and operational outcomes.

You’ll work directly with senior executives, lead multidisciplinary teams across organisational boundaries and make difficult decisions when delivery isn’t going to plan.

And you’ll join us at an interesting point in our journey. Our transformation capability is evolving, we are building out our transformation operating model and developing new playbooks and methodologies to support our businesses. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape how we deliver transformation while simultaneously delivering it.

Location: UK, Flexible

About your role:

As a Programme Delivery Director, you'll lead major transformation programmes from mobilisation through to delivery, adoption and benefits realisation.

You'll work closely with senior leaders across the organisation, bringing together multidisciplinary teams to drive change, overcome challenges and deliver measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning programme outcomes, translating strategy and business cases into successful delivery and measurable benefits.
  • Leading complex, cross-functional teams spanning business, technology, digital, data and operations.
  • Navigating ambiguity and balancing competing priorities to make informed decisions that support programme success.
  • Identifying risks and challenges early, taking action to maintain momentum and delivery confidence.
  • Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing decision-making at executive level.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on customer, commercial and operational value throughout programme delivery.
  • Developing high-performing teams and creating lasting organisational capability.
  • Contributing to the continued evolution of Centrica's transformation framework, methodologies and ways of working.

Here's what we’re looking for:

We're seeking experienced transformation leaders who have successfully delivered large-scale, complex programmes and are motivated by the opportunity to drive meaningful change at enterprise level.

We're interested in the impact you've delivered and the outcomes you've achieved, rather than the number of years you've worked or the specific methodologies you've used.

You'll be able to demonstrate experience leading complex transformation involving several of the following:

  • Significant investment programmes or benefit realisation targets.
  • Major customer, commercial or operational change.
  • Multiple business functions and senior executive stakeholders.
  • Technology, digital, data and operating model transformation.
  • Large colleague or customer populations.
  • Complex supplier, partner and third-party delivery environments.
  • High levels of organisational complexity, interdependency and delivery risk.

You'll also bring:

  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to connect transformation activity to measurable business value.
  • The credibility and confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
  • Experience recovering or redirecting programmes facing significant challenges.
  • A track record of building, leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • The ability to simplify complexity and create clarity, focus and momentum.
  • Curiosity, adaptability and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong self-awareness and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

This is a hands-on transformation leadership role with direct accountability for delivery outcomes, rather than a PMO, governance or advisory position.

We're looking for leaders who are comfortable taking accountability for programme outcomes and remaining close enough to delivery to understand where intervention can make the greatest difference.

You'll have the opportunity to lead strategically significant transformation programmes while helping shape the future of enterprise transformation at Centrica.

What to demonstrate when you apply

We're keen to understand the impact you've personally made.

Your application or CV should make three things particularly clear:

Transformation
What is the most significant or complex transformation you have personally been accountable for?

Impact
What measurable customer, commercial or operational outcomes did it deliver?

Leadership
What difficult decisions, interventions or leadership actions did you personally take that changed the outcome?

We’re less interested in long lists of responsibilities and methodologies and more interested in understanding what changed because you were leading it.

Why Centrica?

This is an opportunity to do more than deliver a programme.

You'll join a growing enterprise transformation community, work on strategically important initiatives and help shape how one of the UK's leading energy and services businesses delivers change.

If you're an experienced transformation leader who enjoys tackling complex challenges and delivering outcomes that make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Why should you apply?

We’re not a perfect place – but we’re a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That’s why we’ve designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too. Help us, help you. We would love for you to share any information about yourself throughout our recruitment process so that we can better understand you and help shape your journey.
