Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

We're looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel, Property to join our high-performing Legal team. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Property, you'll play a key role in supporting a diverse portfolio of property and infrastructure projects across the Centrica group.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex and strategically important matters spanning renewable energy developments, gas storage, hydrogen projects, commercial property transactions, corporate acquisitions and estate management. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, providing pragmatic legal advice that helps drive growth while managing risk.

The breadth of work means you'll need to be adaptable, inquisitive and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and build strong relationships across a wide stakeholder network.

Location: We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. The successful candidate will, however, need to be comfortable commuting to our Windsor office (until end 2026) and Reading office (from January 2027) on a weekly basis and to our other locations as may be needed.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of property and real estate matters across the Centrica group.
  • Support the development, acquisition and management of strategic energy and infrastructure projects, including renewables, hydrogen and energy storage.
  • Lead and support property transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, leases and asset transfers.
  • Support corporate M&A activity through property due diligence and transaction support.
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on property, land and construction-related agreements.
  • Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks, delivering pragmatic solutions aligned to business objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and external advisers, acting as a trusted legal partner.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the Legal team, including the adoption of new technologies and innovative ways of working.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

A commercially aware lawyer who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and thrives on solving complex business challenges.

You will have:

  • A qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent) with a current practising certificate.
  • Strong experience advising on UK property and real estate matters.
  • Significant business-facing legal experience handling complex, high-profile legal matters.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong commercial judgement and a pragmatic approach to risk management.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a wider legal team.
  • A flexible mindset and enthusiasm for continuous learning and development.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the energy, infrastructure, utilities or renewable energy sectors.
  • Knowledge of construction law and experience advising on construction contracts, including JCT, NEC and/or FIDIC forms.
  • An interest in emerging technologies, the energy transition and net-zero initiatives.
  • Previous in-house experience within a complex, fast-paced organisation.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the UK's most significant energy, infrastructure and property projects while helping shape the future of a lower-carbon energy system. You'll join a collaborative, highly regarded Legal team that is closely aligned to business strategy and values innovation, development and continuous improvement.

If you're looking for a role that combines high-quality legal work, commercial impact and exposure to the energy transition, we'd love to hear from you.
