Job Description

THE CARWOW GROUP

Carwow Group is driven by a passion for getting people into cars. But not just any car, the right car. That’s why we are building the go-to destination for car-changing. Designed to reach drivers everywhere with our trail-blazing portfolio of personality rich automotive brands; Carwow, Auto Express, evo, Driving Electric and Car Buyer.

What started as a simple reviews site, is now one of the largest online car-changing destinations in Europe - over 10m customers have used Carwow to help them buy and sell cars since its inception. Last year we grew over 50% with nearly £3bn worth of cars bought on site, while £1.8bn of cars were listed for sale through our Sell My Car service.

In 2024 we went big and acquired Autovia, doubling our audience overnight. Together we now have one of the biggest YouTube channels in the world with over 1.1 billion annual views, sell 1.2 million print copies of our magazines and have an annual web content reach over 350million.

WHY JOIN US?

We are winners of the prestigious Culture 100 award that recognises the most loved and happiest tech companies to work for! We have just raised $52m in funding led by global venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners (an early backer of LinkedIn and Shopify) to accelerate our growth plans!

As pioneers, we’re always driving for new territory and positive change, so our work as a group is never done. Where others see difficulty, it’s our responsibility to see possibility – building new experiences, launching new titles and listening to drivers.

Being a part of Carwow Group means championing drivers and the automotive industry, acting as a disrupter and never being afraid to fail (but learning fast when we do!).

Our team of 500 employees across the UK, Germany, Spain and Portugal are revolutionising car-changing and we are fast expanding our mission across every single brand and country we operate in, so jump in!

ABOUT THE TEAM

This brilliant new role sits in the growing Communications department and reports to the Senior Communications Manager. We are a small but mighty team, working across all titles within the Carwow Group, Carwow, Auto Express, evo, Car Buyer and Driving Electric. We exist to create stories and experiences that give drivers total car confidence. We are industry champions and are privileged enough to work with some of the best automotive journalists in the world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role presents the opportunity to harness the incredible range of data and insights from across the Carwow Group portfolio, to deliver powerful stories that support our daily PR, Editorial & Outreach efforts. Carwow has both world-class content and commercial marketplace capabilities. Over 10m customers have used Carwow to help them buy and sell cars since the business’s inception and last year nearly £3bn worth of cars were bought through the platform, so we are swimming in amazing data and consumer insights… All we need now is someone data-obsessed to help spot those insight nuggets and create incredible stories!

As part of the team, you'll be on the pulse of the daily news agenda. You'll work closely with our content editors and writers, PR team and agencies to pitch, develop and refine stand-out stories and data visualisations. You don’t need to be in love with cars (although it is a bonus!), but you do need to be passionate getting under the skin of the automotive industry and finding human stories within the data

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly and take pride in producing best-in-class work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Source, clean and analyse data to produce a regular stream of stories for Carwow Group’s suite of brands and trading rhythm.
  • Examine and report on published data to identify new stories or provide context, analysis and news lines on the biggest stories of the day.
  • Work closely with the PR & Comms team to news jack and bring to life key topical moments as they (often unexpectedly!) arrive.
  • Pitch, develop and deliver original data-driven, news investigations and come up with innovative ways to present them.
  • Work independently or alongside our in-house designers and developers to create compelling visualisations and interactives.
  • Negotiate with public bodies, trade associations, businesses and academics for data and open records plus gather information via Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
  • Lead the way in explaining data journalism to our internal audiences.
  • Understand the team’s OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) and priorities in order to provide solutions that help them achieve their PR goals.
  • Create the space for the business to ideate and innovate, observing and reporting on competitor behaviour to help Carwow stand out in a crowded market.
  • Work closely with the Analytics team to ensure you are utilising the right datasets and metric definitions that are consistent with our business.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Excellent writing skills comfortable with producing news releases, extended feature articles and investigative reports - all based on data
  • You're never satisfied with a summary — you can find "the story within a story" and connect events to the bigger picture.
  • Enthusiasm and energy required to handle daily deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, even under time pressure.
  • Passion, drive and a can-do approach
  • The ability to visualise complex ideas in clear, accurate and creative ways.
  • Strong journalistic judgement and editorial values.
  • Strong understanding of Excel / Google Sheets.
  • A good understanding of statistics and statistical analysis, plus how to visualise data, using tools like Flourish, Datawrapper, QGIS or d3.
  • Experience in using programming languages for data analysis, such as SQL
  • Knowledge of web development programming languages like HTML/CSS and JavaScript is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent work experience in a newsroom / journalist setting.

WHAT THE PROCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Step 1: Video call with a member of our Talent Team to find out more about your experience and why you want to work at Carwow
  • Step 2: Video-interview with the Brand & Communications Director
  • Step 3: At home SQL test
  • Step 4: In-office task-presentation with PR & Editorial
  • Step 5: Video-interview team chemistry session
