What You’ll Be Doing:
The Core Features Team sits at the heart of the Camunda 8 workflow engine, driving the reliability, user experience, and insights into business processes that power millions of workflows every day all over the world. We build the foundational elements of the workflow engine—creating flexible extension points, advanced tooling, and end-to-end solutions that deliver critical insights and full control over business process execution.
We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to join our high-performing team, pushing the boundaries of scale while adapting to ever-evolving customer needs. As part of this team, you'll work alongside passionate engineers of all experience levels who thrive in a fast-paced, quality-first environment. Your expertise will empower you to make impactful decisions and collaborate closely with Product Management, Product Designers, and other engineers to deliver groundbreaking features.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading high-impact, mission-critical initiatives as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), navigating technical uncertainty and ensuring we solve the right problems with efficient, scalable solutions.
- Developing innovative features and improvements, ensuring they meet our highest standards for security, performance, and maintainability—while continuously advocating for excellence through code reviews.
- Identifying and addressing bugs, and refactoring where needed, to solidify and future-proof the product, prioritizing what drives the most value.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with Product Management, Product Designers, engineers, and key stakeholders to maintain top-tier quality in an agile, fast-moving environment.
- Playing a key role in customer success by helping resolve complex issues during 3rd-level support (including occasional on-call responsibility).
- Mentoring and guiding fellow engineers, fostering a culture of growth, and actively sharing knowledge to elevate the entire organization’s engineering practices.
What You Bring:
- High ambition, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work autonomously
- Extensive backend engineering in distributed systems (APIs, databases, system architecture)Deep understanding of software design principles and best practices (e.g., SOLID, testing)
- Excellent communication skills with a passion for mentoring and helping others grow
- Results-driven mindset: quick execution, pragmatic solutions, and a knack on quality
- Ability and/or willingness to use our product
Nice-to-haves:
- Full-stack experience or a strong interest in expanding your skills
- Familiarity with Java or Java-related languages
- Experience with workflows or BPMN

What We Have to Offer:
Compensation
For external hires, we consider the skills and experience of the incoming candidate, but typically place candidates in the first half of the range to ensure ample room for growth over the entire lifecycle of the role.
Below is the annual Total Target Cash Compensation (Total Cash) range for Camundi located in one of our entities. Total Cash refers to base salary and 100% attainment of variable target, where applicable. Actual Total Cash offered will depend on factors such as skills and qualifications related to the role. To comprise the Total Rewards package, Camunda also offers equity (where applicable) in the form of a Virtual Employee Stock Option Plan and benefits based on the country of residence.
The annual Total Cash range for this position for Camundi in our entities is as follows:
- United States: $131,200.00 to $196,800.00
- Germany: €87,300.00 to €130,900.00
- United Kingdom: £85,000.00 to £127,500.00
- Singapore: S$162,900.00 to S$244,400.00
If you are outside one of these countries, you would be employed by our Preferred Employer Organization (PEO), Remote.
