Wholesale Messaging Specialist - Product

The Scope

The Messaging team at BT Business are responsible for all Application to Person (A2P) messaging to subscribers on the EE Network.

A core part of this role will be to develop and manage BT’s Application to Person (A2P) wholesale messaging products (including SMS and RCS).

As a messaging expert, with a deep understanding of the complex risks and threats, you will be part of a centre of excellence that enables BT to be at the forefront of the industry.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responsible for the end-to-end product lifecycle of both new and existing wholesale messaging products, ensuring effective delivery at each stage. This will include design, development and delivery.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the product vision and strategy across the wider messaging portfolio to achieve both the teams and BT Business goals.
  • Designing and delivering BT’s security strategy to combat threats to messaging integrity, including fraud, smishing, spam, and grey routes
  • Owning the roadmap for messaging security initiatives, driving cross functional collaboration across business including commercial, finance, legal, security, support and technology teams.
  • Identifying new opportunities through data analysis, market research, and innovative thinking that aligns with business value.
  • Representing BT in industry forums and working groups (e.g., MEF, UK Finance), reinforcing BT’s leadership in secure messaging practices.

Experience needed to be successful in the role

  • Messaging Expertise - 5+ years in messaging industry with Tier 1 aggregator or network, specialising in SMS. This includes demonstratable expertise in wholesale (bulk) A2P SMS, RCS, routing, and carrier partnerships.
  • Messaging Security - Strong understanding and experience of working on security issues impacting messaging.
  • Product Management - Experience managing both new market launches and the in life maintenance of existing product portfolios.
  • Technical Acumen - Good knowledge of current technologies and trends in the telecommunications industry especially in the context of messaging (SMS and RCS) with the ability to leverage this in strategy development.
  • Business and Commercial Acumen - Good understanding of business and commercial dynamics in the telecommunications sector and adjacent markets. Understands drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g., business KPIs, business plans).
  • Stakeholder Management – Proven history of engaging and influencing a wide variety of stakeholders both externally (vendors/corporate partners) and internally at the highest level (C suite/Director Level). This also includes networking to form and maintain strong relationships.
  • Communication - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely up to an executive level through various methods including presentations, data analysis, email and phone.
  • Data Driven Decision Making - Able to use data and analytics techniques to deliver information to enable decision making and mitigate risks.
