Job Description

Closing Date: Friday 7th August 2025

About the role

Technical Accounting is a specialist team within Group Finance, acting as BT Group’s subject matter experts on accounting standards and complex transactions. We set and maintain group accounting policies, advise on the correct treatment of deals and contracts, approve technical accounting papers, and deliver training across the organisation.

The team works closely with External Reporting, Consolidation and Statutory Reporting, with regular exposure to senior stakeholders and visibility over some of the most interesting and material matters in the business. The work you do directly shapes BT’s financial results and supports high‑quality reporting to the market.

What you’ll be doing

  • Advising finance and commercial teams on the accounting implications of deals, transactions and new contracts, including reviewing technical accounting analyses.

  • Developing and delivering accounting training across BT to support continuous professional development and address key areas of challenge.

  • Leading the implementation of new or amended accounting standards, ensuring consistent and compliant adoption across the group.

  • Setting, reviewing and monitoring adherence to BT’s group accounting policies.

  • Owning key group‑led accounting processes, including goodwill impairment, share‑based payments, going‑concern and long‑term viability assessments.

  • Contributing to Audit Committee and Board papers, providing clear summaries of complex accounting matters.

  • Owning and reviewing financial statement disclosures for interim and year‑end reporting.

  • Working closely with external auditors on their review of accounting judgements and audit of BT’s consolidated financial statements.

  • Acting as second line of defence for treasury‑related transactions, reviewing accounting papers and responding to ad hoc technical queries.
