Why this job matters?


The purpose of the role is to:
• Cover the full lifecycle of (design), planning, build, and in-life support of IP-based data networks and services, as well as the BT Germany DCN (Data Communication Network) and Data Centre including the End-of-Life cycle of hardware
• (Design), planning, and build of Data Centre customer connectivity (complex, customer-specific solutions) for Managed Services, Telehousing
• Capacity planning of Data Centre and DCN (Data-Communication-Network) infrastructure (active & passive)
• End-to-end Low-Level Design, testing, and planning of complex (internal) customer connections (customer-specific solutions) for Data-Center Managed Services and DCN, including the in-time delivery of customer access to IP networks – particularly to the DCN network


What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities


• Capacity management of the Data Centre site in Frankfurt-Bonames and German DCN network covering WAN, LAN and passive data centre infrastructure components (racks, pre-cabling, footprints)
• Ensuring comprehensive documentation of the network infrastructure (BT Data Centre Services) and customer connections
• Planning and commissioning of management connectivity, as well as access to internal networks (DCN & Data Centre) via DCN/data Centre firewalls in accordance with BT security policies
• Base Configuration of Data Centre and DCN backend infrastructure (switches and routers) as required
• Commissioning of data centre and DCN infrastructure configuration in line with Low-Level Designs (LLD)
• Preparation of low-level designs for customer solutions and handover to other BT teams
• Initial configuration of Data-Center and DCN hardware and handover to Operations
• Design, planning, and commissioning of customer connectivity to other BT platforms (Internet access, MPLS, Global Fabric..) within BT Data Centre & DCN
• Planning, coordination and execution of customer migrations
• Implementation of security policies for the network infrastructure in accordance with BT Security guidelines, including updates of BT security documentation of BT Data Centre Services
• Own Data-Center and Data-Communication Network (DCN) network Design

Skills required for the job


• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• good knowledge and hands-on experience in low-level design, planning, and configuration of telecommunications networks (LAN/WAN), particularly with Cisco platforms
• experience in the creation of technical design and planning documentation
• In-depth knowledge of IP/VPN networking technologies, particularly IP technologies and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS)
• Experience in network security (firewalls, proxy, etc.) especially vendor Cisco and FortiGate
• Strong attention to detail and structured problem-solving skills
• Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken ; German language
• High level of initiative and ability to work independently as part of a team
• Strong communication skills
• Strategic mindset and flexibility

• Decides how to satisfy the design and capacity/programme demand taking into account commercial factors: Examples: Capex/Opex, Benefit, return on investment, deploy new technology, rack extention, card in-fill, consolidation, routing of traffic.

• Decides to escalate resource issues against a given project/plan
