About the role

These roles are based out of a strategic work location, and you’ll be expected to be in the office 5 days a week. Due to the secure nature of the role, there are no options for working from home.

You will need to be eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance before starting this role. You will need to have lived in the UK for 10+ years to be eligible.

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/nationa…. An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of our software delivery teams, working alongside our customers and partners to develop key customer services.

The team develop and maintain bespoke, highly complex, specialist capabilities that are critical to the success of our customers, who we work very closely with. We work across a wide variety of platforms and technology stacks, and we utilise a range of programming languages.

What you will be doing (Role accountabilities)

You will deliver the engineering strategy through delivery of high quality, and well-tested, software solutions, on time and on budget.

You will work closely with customers to identify and resolve complex technical issues; and will have authority to deliver discrete areas of work.

You will also have the opportunity to perform technical coaching and mentoring on your own areas of expertise, with a focus on continuously developing and improving team knowledge and capability.

What you'll need to succeed (Skills & Experience)

Learn job-specific skills:​

  • Software engineering best practise, typically following an Agile methodology
  • Object-oriented software engineering experience
  • Use of languages and supporting technologies, such as C++, C#, Python, MEAN stack, docker, Jenkins, git

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Delivering for the customer: Software Engineering, delivering technical solutions to meet the customer needs, on time, on budget, and right-first-time.
  • Owning outcomes: take personal responsibility for delivery of software engineering tasks.
  • Sharing knowledge, through coaching, documentation & peer reviews

What we're looking for

  • A passion for technology and problem-solving.
  • Technical capability from your degree in secure software engineering
  • Curiosity about how computer systems work
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and embrace new challenges and learn new technical skills
  • Natural problem-solvers, resolving issues whilst ensuring quality and managing impact and risk

Entry Requirements

At least a predicted 2:2 in a STEM subject

Or equivalent SCQF (Scottish credit and qualifications framework)
