About the role

This role is critical to the evolution & maintenance of Openreach Plan & Build platforms. This Software Engineering Specialist role acts as a domain specialist within the Plan & Build application team of Openreach IT. Key responsibility of the role is to architect & design the solutions/capabilities/functionalities as per the strategy & roadmap of Openreach. These solutions should help Openreach to improve business & operational efficiency.

What you’ll be doing

  • Drive Transformation Business Cases to reduce systems complexity & costs and improve business & operational efficiencies
    Front facing into LOB Strategists, Portfolio Architects, CE leads, E2E Designers and Bridging into Platform for architecturally compliant solutions - extend/capture architecture uplifts where appropriate as a result of transformation initiatives
  • Close involvement & participation in all solution design stages across the LoBs - to inform and steer the designs to use the Platform (components, SDKs, industry standard data model – TMF SID) in a compliant way.
  • Ownership of functional area architectural direction/strategy, roadmaps and technology choices – document Design Patterns as Blueprints
  • Drive System Rationalisation & Simplification feasibility studies, justify business benefits of rationalisation proposals
  • Business Analysis (incl RIAs) for supporting LoB business cases – estimate more accurately (with inputs from component leads) – to ensure architecturally strategic solutions are not avoided due to mis-estimation. ROMs will be backed off by Delivery leads before putting forward.
  • Architecture conformance reviews for their areas – spotting any architectural deviation and doing deep dives as necessary to bring back in line with architecture.
  • Involvement with Operations to understand user-experience to inform the direction of improvements – drive specific enhancements to components in their areas
  • Drive specific pieces of work in their areas (e.g. deep dives in very specific areas/components)

Essential Skills / Experience

Experience

  • B.E. /B.Tech/M. Tech. (in any stream) from a reputed university.
  • 10-15 years of experience in the Telecom and OSS
  • Prior experience in Network Plan & Build, OSS/NMS/EMS is a must.
  • Should have done implementation of at least one product in the area of network plan & build for mature telecom provider.
  • Certifications from standard bodies like TMF will be advantage.
  • Skills
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies like Broadband, FTTP, ETHERNET etc.
  • Strong understanding of telecom OSS/BSS architecture with focus on OSS.
  • Candidates should have strong technology background on Java, database management systems, Cloud technologies.
  • Ability to quickly gather requirements, explore multiple approaches and suggest optimal solutions
  • Strong mentoring skills. Should be able inspire people based on the designs and intellect.
  • Experience of independently designing and delivering subsystems of a larger solution
