Job Description

Why this job matters

The Customer facing tech lead is a hands-on senior engineer responsible for designing and delivering high-quality customer-facing web applications using Angular, React, OBIEE, Qlik JavaScript/TypeScript, Java/Spring Boot, microservices, GraphQL, and Oracle DB. The role combines deep technical engineering with leadership responsibilities—driving frontend and backend architecture, guiding developers, ensuring exceptional user experience, and maintaining strong engineering standards across customer-facing platforms.

What you’ll be doing

Engineering Strategy & Delivery
• Deliver modern, scalable, and high-performing customer-facing applications using Angular, Java/Spring Boot, and GraphQL.
• Drive end-to-end delivery from design to production, ensuring high-quality releases and predictable execution.
• Establish coding, testing, and performance standards for customer-facing technology stacks.
Architecture & Technical Design
• Define frontend and backend architectures, including component structure, API design, data access patterns, caching, and integration flows.
• Make key technology decisions across Angular, Java, Spring Boot, GraphQL, npm, build pipelines, and Oracle DB schemas.
• Ensure security, accessibility, scalability, and responsive design principles are embedded in all solutions.
Hands-on Development & Technical Execution
• Write, review, and optimize high-quality code across Angular and Java/Spring Boot services.
• Build and maintain GraphQL APIs, reusable UI components, micro frontends, and backend microservices.
• Solve complex debugging issues across browser, API, data, and cloud layers.
Customer Experience & Frontend Quality
• Ensure applications deliver exceptional performance, usability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Drive user-centric engineering practices—responsive UI, intuitive UX flows, optimized load time and runtime performance.
Platform Reliability & Operational Excellence
• Ensure monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting standards for both frontend and backend services.
• Lead production readiness reviews, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis for customer-impacting issues.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks (unit, UI, API, performance), and deployment processes.
Leadership & Team Development
• Provide technical leadership to frontend and backend developers, conducting design reviews, code reviews, and architecture sessions.
• Mentor engineers to strengthen skills across Angular, JavaScript, Java/Spring Boot, GraphQL, performance tuning, and quality practices.
• Drive an engineering culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and customer-focused delivery.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Alignment
• Collaborate closely with Product, UX/UI, Architecture, QA, and platform teams to deliver customer-facing features aligned to business goals.
• Communicate engineering decisions, timelines, risks, and trade-offs clearly and effectively.

Skills Required

Technical Skills
• Strong expertise in Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, component-based architecture, and UI performance optimization.
• Deep experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, GraphQL, and backend service architecture.

• Experience with Oracle DB — schema design, performance tuning, PL/SQL basics, and backend data integration.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across frontend, backend, and integration layers.
• Do discovery work for brown field apps by understanding the code

Delivery & Leadership Skills
• Ability to lead technical delivery end-to-end across planning, execution, and production operations. Run Scrum / Kanban delivery squads. Implement engineering practice and ways of working
• Strong decision-making across architecture, design trade-offs, reliability, and cost optimisation.
• Proven experience in mentoring developers, driving engineering standards, and uplifting team capability.
• Skilled in coordinating with Product, Architecture, and Ops to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes.
Behavioural Skills
• High ownership mindset with a bias for action and accountability for end-to-end delivery.
• Strong communication and influence, able to simplify complexity for diverse stakeholders.
• Collaborative, empathetic, and able to build a culture of trust, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.

  • 5+ years of hands-on development experience in Angular and Java/Spring Boot.
  • Experience delivering large-scale customer-facing applications with strong performance and UX.
  • Proven experience in microservices development using modern engineering practices (DDD, API-first design, event-driven patterns) and strong proficiency in a core backend language Java.
  • Deep practical experience with AWS cloud services (compute, storage, networking, security, observability) and cloud-native deployments using CI/CD automation and containers/Kubernetes.
  • Track record of leading technical delivery, resolving complex engineering issues, and contributing to architectural decisions for high-performance systems.
  • Experience mentoring developers, driving engineering best practices, and working closely with Product, Architecture, Ops, and Security teams.
