Working Style: 3 days a week in office, 2 days from home
About the role
The role is for a Specialist Software Engineer working on a life critical platform across the UK and Republic of Ireland. You will be working across multiple applications and services, primarily focussed on development of the call handling applications used by the emergency call handlers.
The main focus will be software development work, implementing new functionality, resolving defects, and producing documentation for the code. You will also contribute to the architecture and development of the future emergency call handling workstation for the UK.
In addition to development work, you will provide additional assistance to support teams, investigating faults when required, creating and managing tickets via fault reporting platforms and Jira.
What you’ll be doing
- May have cross-component or system accountability for larger or more complex projects, e.g. those with more interconnectedness or employing new technologies/products.
- Providing technical quality assurance for work of other engineers; resolving inter-system issues.
- coaching and Mentoring software engineers including peers.
- Decide the best course of action during an urgent or complex situation for problems with solutions developed within their team/s.
- Solve issues that may be related to vendor code, not just 'owned code.'
- Solve problems that tend to be of a high impact on the customer. These are typically technical issues preventing timely delivery.
- Create, lead, and implement significant technical solutions that could impact internally and/or externally.
- Ensure the integrated solution across multiple components is coherent and meets the end-to-end needs of the customer as well as operability, security, and other key non-functional requirements.
