Job Description

Location: London, Birmigham or Bristol

About the role

The Senior Manager, People Transformation & Change plays a pivotal role in driving strategic alignment and the successful execution of the People Transformation agenda across the Corporate, Digital and Networks units, ensuring alignment with business and P&C strategy and delivering measurable outcomes. The role leads high-impact initiatives, proactively managing risks, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving the realisation of customer and commercial benefits. Acting as the primary interface between the Business, Unit P&C teams and Centres of Excellence (CoEs), the role holder works across stakeholder groups to translate strategy into prioritised, executable plans and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior leaders on organisational, workforce and change interventions.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale, people-focused transformation & change programmes that align with the unit’s business goals and financial targets, providing expert recommendations and change expertise to senior leaders on interventions to optimise organisational performance. Deliver at scale wherever possible, localising as necessary depending upon unit needs.
  • Ensure P&C portfolio and local programme timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Establish robust programme management practices, including risk mitigation, dependency management, and reporting mechanisms, while optimising programme outcomes through the implementation of Agile and traditional delivery frameworks.
  • Act as the primary interface with the Strategy, Portfolio & Performance team to ensure Unit priorities are fed into the overall portfolio view and resources are allocated to support future new product development (cross functional squads). Also act as a key point of contact for Group teams (P&C and non-P&C) on activity being deployed into the units, ensuring clear understanding of deliverables, success measures and responding on behalf of the unit P&C team.
  • Manage the in-unit prioritisation process and implementation of portfolio and change initiatives, optimising resource allocation based on strategic value and interdependencies within and across a designated business unit. Develop clear communication and implementation plans to support smooth transitions and minimise disruption during change.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, to facilitate decision-making, secure buy-in, and ensure alignment on strategic people initiatives, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the change process.
  • As part of an agile P&C organisation, this role involves participating in cross-functional teams and contributing expertise to projects outside of primary specialisation to deliver value across multiple HR domains.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Business Partnering, Consulting & Stakeholder Management: Acts as a trusted advisor, building strong relationships across multiple business units and senior leadership teams to drive business performance. Brings a deep understanding of the business and commercial context, and is able to navigate complex stakeholder environments, balance differing priorities and ways of working, and manage difficult messages to drive alignment and successful outcomes.
  • Project / Programme Delivery, Governance & Risk Management: Proven experience leading large-scale, complex transformation programmes and portfolios through all stages of the lifecycle, from initiation and planning through to execution and closure. Brings strong programme governance and risk management capability, with the ability to identify, escalate and manage risks, while coaching and developing others in programme delivery best practice.
  • Business Case / Portfolio Development: Synthesises the benefits / costs at a unit and portfolio level and use this to influence resources / budget and balance trade-offs.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Storytelling / Communication: Excites people around what can / will be created, to clearly manage expectations and explain what actions we need people to take and when.
  • Change Management: Designs and implements a strategy for change management activities, managing those changes and developments to drive business value
  • Strategic Workforce Planning: Uses strategy and workforce insights to ensure HR initiatives are aligned to future business demands and strategic goals
  • Data Analysis / Decision Making: Against a backdrop of competing requirements, uses data insights to make difficult trade-offs and make clear, reasoned recommendations (and what needs to stop being done)
  • Agile Methodologies / Collaboration: Driving the embedment of agile ways of working and behaviours into HR practices, promoting flexibility, continuous improvement, prioritisation and collaboration
  • Growth Mindset: Continuously seeks opportunities to grow new and existing skills, with a commitment continuous learning and reflection
  • Inclusive Leadership: Leverages diversity of thought and inclusive thinking to maximise the effectiveness and success of teams, policies, practices, and products
