Locations: Manchester, Birmingham

Flexible Working: BT have moved to a hybrid working model - you can work from home 2 days per week. This means you’ll be at your contractual location 3 days a week.

As a Senior Business Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, shaping and securing new business opportunities within the Retail and Business Services sector.

Working as part of a specialist team, you will focus on acquiring new customers and increasing share of wallet within existing accounts where BT has low market penetration. This is a highly strategic and customer-facing role, requiring a commercially astute and tenacious individual who can create opportunities where none currently exist, build senior-level relationships and influence complex buying decisions.

You'll be responsible for developing a robust pipeline of opportunities across the BT portfolio, using market insight, customer understanding and consultative selling techniques to drive long-term revenue growth.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify, qualify and develop new business opportunities within Retail and Business Services accounts, driving new revenue and increasing BT's share of wallet.
  • Build and maintain influential relationships with senior stakeholders, decision-makers and buying communities to create and accelerate sales opportunities.
  • Use market intelligence, customer insight and competitor analysis to shape a robust pipeline of acquisition opportunities across the BT portfolio.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans, leveraging consultative and value-based selling methodologies to progress opportunities from identification through qualification.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers, Marketing and wider virtual teams to refine value propositions, create customer engagement strategies and maximise commercial outcomes.
  • Act as a trusted BT ambassador, delivering exceptional customer experiences and driving revenue growth through effective influencing, negotiation and sales rigour.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Market segmentation & intelligence, to guide pipeline development and targeting
  • Customer relationship skills to identify and develop new acquisition opportunities
  • Commercial acumen, required to qualify opportunities
  • Stakeholder mapping, focus on identifying new contacts, influencers and decision makers
  • Expertise in value-based and consultative selling
  • Ability to recommend and shape a robust pipeline based on market intelligence, segmentation, and whitespace analysis
  • Understands stakeholder motivations and can tailor communications accordingly
  • Track record of winning major acquisition business with corporate customers

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Capable of assessing cost-of-sale, win probability, and required resources to advise go/no-go decisions
  • Works closely with base management and marketing to ensure pipeline aligns with commercial goals
  • Comfortable navigating long-cycle, high-value sales processes.
  • Anticipates commercial hurdles and works proactively with account and commercial teams to address them
  • Preferably from Telco/ICT or technology sales; experience across verticals is valuable
  • Has experience in gaining access and building new relationships at executive level
  • Experience working in the retail vertical
