About the role

This role exists to provide specialist technical support on complex network security and cyber security deployments for any and all of our UK contracts. Building intermate working relationships and trust through effective communication and meeting expectation and deadlines is key. Liaising with customer representatives or vendors and directing other support staff where appropriate will form part of the role.
Additionally, the support of new products and services is an important part of keeping pace with the industry and customer requirements and allows BT to maintain market position as key supplier of services. The role holder will therefore be expected to provide support in this area, working with confidence and initiative and applying excellent self-management in order to promote successful outcomes.
The successful candidate must be willing to undergo Government Security Clearance to SC level, which requires residence in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
What you’ll be doing
- Collaborating with a team of passionate engineers who share a commitment to building innovative, industry-leading platforms while continuously developing their own skills.
- Acting as a key decision-maker during cyber incidents, ensuring mitigation controls and response measures are effective and appropriate.
- Providing expert security advice and remediation guidance to BT’s Lines of Business and external customers.
- Owning and completing integration testing for new products and services, including producing all necessary supporting documentation.
- Proactively supporting your team leader and line manager to achieve team objectives.
- Maintaining full awareness of the importance of safeguarding sensitive customer information at all times, reinforcing BT’s reputation as a trusted organisation.
Essential skills/experience
- Strong understanding of security fundamentals, with experience in security operations (ideally 2nd line) and effective incident ownership.
- Proven ability in firewall and security platform troubleshooting, using a structured, methodical approach to resolving issues.
- Solid network fundamentals, including routing and IP, to support secure and resilient environments.
- High level of operational discipline, including adherence to ticketing, change management, and governance processes.
- Clear and effective technical communication, supporting team operations and customer satisfaction, with awareness of modern engineering practices such as continuous integration and delivery.
Desirable skills/experience
- Experience with industry‑leading security platforms and vendors, such as Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Cisco.
- Relevant industry certifications, including CompTIA Network+ and/or Security+.
- CCNA certification or equivalent practical networking knowledge.
- Exposure to automation and scripting, supporting more efficient and scalable security operations.
