About the role

As an Electronics and Health & Safety Trainer, you will hold an expert level of skill in our portfolios of technical hardware and the health and safety one. You will act as a subject matter expert with your colleagues, as well as carrying out quality audits on field engineers maintenance/installation activity, We work in a rapidly changing environment, and you’ll be the first to learn, understand and lead on new and emerging complex technologies/networks in our field teams as well as new tool introductions . You will be involved in the creation and delivery of training of our new and existing team members, using your knowledge and experience to drive excellent standards with your colleagues & future generations of technicians/engineers.

Qualified (Internally and externally) in the creation & delivery of training courses in a classroom/practical environment. Delivering a mixture of written & practical training to colleagues in order to develop team member skills and/or meet changes in business demand. Works closely with the wider Learning & Development teams, the Networks Health & Safety team and key stakeholders in Field to support the review and updating of existing training material as well as the creation of new course material where required (i.e. new/emerging technologies or legislation changes) and providing advice and guidance on learning policies, practices and processes.

Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role i.e. able to bend, stretch, kneel and crouch. Also must be able to climb, work at floor and ceiling level inside buildings, tower structures and road side infrastructure, lift heavy drums/cables and recognise coloured wiring.

Individuals will be required to hold a Full UK Driving Licence as the role is an agile one delivering courses across the UK footprint at regional training hubs.

What you will be doing

• Prioritises health and safety at all times, working in line with job licence, agreed competencies and the BT Health & Safety Handbook.
• Undertakes on site risk assessments, continuously identifying and managing hazards as work progresses.
• Reports and records incidents and near misses promptly, and challenges unsafe behaviour where appropriate, including requesting ID on BT premises.
• Ensures full compliance with ISO standards (including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) and follows required internal sign off processes with Power Environmental Specialists and the
Power Technical Support Group.
• Creates an inclusive working environment, where people from all backgrounds can succeed.
• Supports and works with Networks teams to deliver, making our unit an amazing workplace for everyone.
• Execute all required work (allocated and self-identified) in line with the priorities of the team.
• Drives own performance ensuring they are effectively contributing to wider team measures taking ownership for given area.
• Record and maintain mandatory compliance, regulatory, data and informational requirements (including required training)
• Actively coaches/buddies other team members, including new joiners, to support best practice, quality standards and support delivery of new skills/technologies.
• Works with line manager to drive personal upskilling and development.
• All work on equipment is in accordance with documented procedures and practices as provided by BT and its suppliers.
• Maintains tools, equipment and PPE ensuring quality and calibration.
• Actively promotes a continuous improvement mindset, contributing ideas, supporting ownership of improvements, and identifying and progressing issues through to completion.
• Owns performance and reliability of assigned sites, proactively identifying issues and driving actions to resolution
• Supports delivery of assigned projects or work packages
• Presents and represents business data with internal and external stakeholders
• Raising of Issues/risk to more senior individuals to facilitate change
• Responsible for being compliant with waste removal policies.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Clear and confident communicator – able to explain technical and safety information to a wide range of learners.
• Strong safety and attention-to-detail mindset – takes responsibility, follows procedures and is confident challenging unsafe practices.
• Confident, engaging and assertive – able to build rapport with learners while maintaining authority and holding people accountable.

The advanced engineer role will differ in expertise requirements geographically some may require all elements stated below,others some, dependent on business demand. Not an exhaustive list.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Training qualifications – internal/external – e.g. Trained Trainer, C&G, CAVA. Experience in delivering training and/or writing technical briefings/training material.
• Experienced Electronics Engineer, having passed the Electronics Engineering EPA & Training Pathway (internal pathways)
• Experienced IXD Engineer with appropriate Electronics skills or training capability as below.
