By owning the tools, automation workflows, and roadmap, the role ensures that planning processes can be supported and also future-proofed to support evolving technologies like 5G and beyond. It safeguards data integrity, enforces security compliance, and drives innovation—ultimately enabling faster, smarter, and more reliable network deployment that directly impacts customer experience and operational excellence.

What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

1. Tool Development & Governance

  • Define and scope requirements. Lead development of internal tools and oversee alignment of external tools for topology design, transmission planning and radio design.
  • Maintain governance over tool usage, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with design standards.
  • Ensure all transmission design tools and processes comply with BT’s security policies and standards.
  • Ensure data integrity by implementing validation checks, maintaining consistent and reliable transmission planning data, resolving anomalies, and aligning with BT’s data governance standards across all design tools and systems.
  • Own the roadmap for transmission design tools and platforms, prioritizing new features based on stakeholder input, business needs, and technology trends, and leading end-to-end development cycles to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with IT and software teams to introduce or integrate tools.

2. Design Authority

  • Act as the technical authority for transmission design tools and methodologies.
  • Review and approve tool outputs used in transmission planning, rollout and downstream systems.
  • Ensure alignment with transmission design, deployment, RAN architecture, and capacity planning.

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with transmission designers, engineers, and rollout teams to gather requirements, feedback and improve tool usability.
  • Provide training and support to the users of transmission tools.

4. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on industry trends in transmission technologies and planning tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tool capabilities and design efficiency.

5. Process Automation

  • Identify opportunities for automation in transmission related activities.
  • Develop scripts, templates, and automation pipelines to reduce manual effort and improve turnaround times and accuracy.

Experience you’d be expected to have

  • Strong understanding of RAN transmission technologies (microwave, fibre, IP/MPLS, LEO).
  • Experience with transmission planning tools (e.g., IQLink, EAI, Sitetracker, Spectrum, Circuit Manager, Nemesis, IMS, GIS platforms).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, VBA) and data handling (Excel, SQL).
  • Familiarity with automation frameworks and software development lifecycle.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in transmission planning or network design.
  • Experience in tool development or process automation is highly desirable.

We will also offer reasonable adjustments for the selection process if required, so please do not hesitate to inform us.

DON'T MEET EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT?
