About the role

Our Group Internal Audit team helps BT achieve our purpose by shining a light on what works well and where things can be improved – helping us build solid foundations so we can go faster in delivering and achieving our ambitions.

This is a hands-on position for a forward-thinking Group Internal Audit manager who will deliver a portfolio of audits across BT Group, using their experience of financial, operational and technology controls to agree practical actions that will help BT to improve.

Alongside your audit work, you will have opportunities to work in small teams to deliver continuous improvement initiatives to ensure our team continues to grow - by leveraging data, evolving agile methodologies and reporting strategies etc. This is a great opportunity to make a significant impact on GIA.

What you’ll be doing

  • Gather business insights from various stakeholders across BT to provide input to Group Internal Audit’s annual plan and the scope of individual audits.
  • Deliver end-to-end audits in a risk assessed, timely, and focused manner, utilising data analytics tools where appropriate.
  • Monitor the audit budget to minimise overruns and delays.
  • Track agreed audit actions to ensure implementation is achieved against targets and the remediation is effective.
  • Provide input to the various management fora across BT such as production of papers for quarterly Audit and Risk Committees and other governance committees.
  • Contribute to initiatives underpinning the GIA strategy and objectives.
  • Provide advice, coaching and mentoring to audit team members where appropriate.
  • Initial oversight and first level review of audit work papers prepared by individuals assigned to audit where acting as lead to ensure the work is of good quality and in accordance with the GIA Methodology.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Experience delivering risk-based internal audits within a large, complex or regulated organisation, with the ability to identify risks, evaluate business processes and provide practical recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence decision-making and engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional qualification such as CIIA, CIA, CIMA, ACCA or ICAEW, or equivalent experience gained within an internal audit environment.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Strong knowledge of financial, operational and technology controls, with the ability to assess control effectiveness across a wide range of business processes.
  • Experience using data analytics tools and audit technology to enhance testing, reporting and audit insights.
  • Experience working with Risk, Compliance or other assurance functions to coordinate assurance activity and strengthen risk oversight.
  • Previous experience coaching, mentoring or reviewing the work of colleagues within an audit or assurance team.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities to enhance audit methodologies, processes and ways of working.
