Job Description

About the role

Your day to day role is to design and deliver solutions for BT’s customers. Your design work will specialise in network solutions. Our customers are generally external customers so you will be recognised with that enhanced level of visibility and responsibility.

You’ll be working as part of a dedicated team that spans the globe. As a design Specialist, you’ll be responsible for delivering medium to large designs. Working with other designers you may even be the design lead who will be expected to review all components and then deliver the overall design. As a Specialist, you will have an expert knowledge of the overall design.

You will contribute to technical discussions within the team and customer, leading others towards a better understanding and encouraging a dialogue to improve the design principles used in the team. You will be required to impart your design principles towards a more senior level, shaping our future direction.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will typically work on designs and deliveries for our customers.
  • You could be asked to get involved in new projects or work with a bid team to provide responses to BT ‘s customers.
  • As a Specialist we need you to generate ownership of the complexed areas of a large solution or the whole solution itself.
  • You will be required to be the face of Cisco ACI into the customer become their trusted advisor and trusted partner.
  • You will help mentor and knowledge share junior designers on ACI.

Essential skills/experience

  • Understand Cisco ACI hardware and topologies.
  • Experience of setting up an Cisco ACI fabric from scratch.
  • Understand the difference between Network Centric and Application Centric deployments and pros/cons of each.
  • Real world experience of migrating from legacy DC LAN environment (for example Cisco IOS or NX-OS based switched environments) into Cisco ACI.
  • Experience of DC LAN technologies such as VSS, VDC, vPCs, Spanning-tree, port channels.
  • 5 years’ experience in designing and implementing the following ACI logical and physical constructs
  • Tenant building blocks including the following –
    o Tenants
    o VRFs
    o Bridge Domains
    o End Point Groups
    o Application Profiles
    o Contracts
  • Access Policies including the following –
    o Pools, Domains and AAEPs
    o Policies and Policy Groups
    o Profiles and Selectors
    • Extending Layer 2 outside ACI using L2Outs
    • L3Outs
    • ACI integrations including vSphere using VDS and implementing Service Graphs
    • Detailing understanding of ACI management and monitoring
    • Detailed understanding of ACI Multi-Pod, ACI Multi-Site and Remote Leaf deployment

Desirable skills/experience:

  • Cisco ACI certified – CCNP Data Centre or ACI Specialist.
  • You have (or be working towards) building your network automation experience in areas such Ansible or Terraform.
