Job Description

Role Purpose

The Third Line Support Engineer is a highly technical position. This person will be responsible for the performance and availability of all Customer Services across Transport and IP networks ensuring services are managed effectively within end to end business service targets. These networks provide IP voice, video, TV and data services in fixed, enterprise and mobile environments. There is a strong emphasis on Data Centre technologies with routing and switching knowledge.

Essence of Role – Key Accountabilities

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform Third Line Support tasks and activities to ensure that all Network Operations Functions, Business Continuity and pro-active maintenance processes are supported in delivering VF Services to defined performance objectives.
  • Participate in the interaction and provision of technical support to all 3rd Line Stakeholders e.g. Change Management, Problem Management, Incident Management, 1st Line Operations, 2nd line Operations, Field Services, Project, Operations Management Team and VF Development Teams.
  • Participate in the operational aspect of Vendors / Third Party Contracts (TPC) and their service delivery, escalations, and software/hardware deficiencies’ e.g. equipment and fiber providers in keeping with VF Business Strategy Fault and Crisis management and critical operational decision making
  • Participate and work within the framework of VFUKs Operations change management process ensuring change calendars and change control are adhered to for all network changes
  • Ensure that you support all Operations Functions, Initiatives and Processes to deliver Networks and Enterprise Vodafone’s Services to defined performance levels.
  • Support VFUKs development Functions in delivering new products, services and functionality.
  • Support the Availability, Capacity and Business Continuity Processes for Transport Operations and support VFUKs business continuity plan.
  • Device deployment, upgrades, hardware and software maintenance, E2E Access and Transport troubleshooting.
  • Switching/Routing /BGP Peer/Transit/Core Traffic monitoring/trending/route balancing/route optimization
  • Peer/Transit/Core Network latency monitoring/trending, Unicast/Multicast Analysis
  • Full operational engagement in internal and external project development, service introduction and operational acceptance processes.
  • Take responsibility for staying knowledgeable of technology developments and maintaining appropriate level of expertise for supported technologies.
  • Participate in the 3rd Line on Call Rota as required.

We Are Looking For You, If You Have:

Competency / Performance Driver

Technical / Professional Expertise

  • 3rd level Qualification in IP/Network Engineering or other suitable qualification
  • 5 + years of high and low level design and operational experience maintaining a medium to large size IP/MPLS Core and/or Access networks.
  • Cisco Networking experience essential alongside CCNP Data Centers and good understanding of Transmission Technologies.
  • Operational/Engineering Knowledge of Cisco, Nokia, SIAE, Huawei and Infinera infrastructure advantageous
  • Cisco/Vendor Certified Accreditations preferred.
