Job Description

We operate a hybrid model of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home, please only apply if you are comfortable with this arrangement.

Must hold or be eligible to achieve SC-level Security Clearance.

About the role

Join BT’s Government, Health and Policing team as a Customer Solutions Design Manager, leading a team that designs secure, end-to-end technical solutions supporting critical programmes that help keep the UK safe and secure. You’ll work closely with customers, technical teams and senior stakeholders to turn complex requirements into effective, deliverable solutions while creating an environment where your people can develop and succeed. This is an opportunity to shape technical design standards, improve how the team works and contribute to the continued modernisation of our business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and develop a team of Technical Designers, providing clear direction, coaching, performance support and development opportunities.
  • Deliver high-quality, consistent end-to-end technical designs that meet customer needs and align with agreed architecture, standards and governance.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers and stakeholders, bringing people together to understand requirements, manage priorities and support successful delivery.
  • Drive design assurance through peer reviews and technical governance, identifying and managing technical risks and maintaining high standards across design outputs.
  • Improve ways of working, processes and tooling while planning resources and costs effectively against current and future deliverables.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Technical team leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop technical professionals in a complex environment, creating an inclusive and supportive team culture.
  • Stakeholder leadership: Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, technical specialists and senior stakeholders.
  • Technical design management: Experience overseeing technical design delivery, including quality, governance, resource planning and translating requirements into practical solutions.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience making decisions and managing risk within complex technical programmes.
  • Commercial awareness, including an understanding of how technical decisions can affect cost and delivery.
  • Experience working within secure government or similarly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of network solutions that interface with AWS or other cloud environments.
  • Experience improving technical design processes, tooling or ways of working.
