About the role

The Counter Drone Field Engineer works within Connected Solutions -to deliver, install, and support specialist Counter Drone systems in secure and regulated environments.

The role contributes to business success by ensuring complex technical systems are deployed safely, operate reliably, and are supported throughout their lifecycle. This includes hands‑on field engineering, fault resolution, system validation, and collaboration with internal teams and technology suppliers.

By supporting delivery excellence, operational resilience, and continuous improvement, this role enables BT to provide trusted, high‑quality engineering services aligned to organisational priorities

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver field‑based installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of Counter Drone systems
  • Diagnose and resolve technical faults, ensuring minimal service impact and adherence to safety standards
  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on installed systems
  • Customer facing engagements including training demonstrations and general engineering relationships
  • Conduct site surveys, system validation, and acceptance testing
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, records, and handover materials
  • Provide technical support to operational users in line with contracted terms
  • Work with external technology suppliers to support fault diagnosis, upgrades, and technical resolutions
  • Operate within defined engineering standards, safety frameworks, and governance processes
  • Collaborate with delivery, logistics, programme, and sales teams across BT
  • Support trials, demonstrations, and evaluation activities where required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and ways of working
  • Escalate complex issues through agreed engineering and assurance route

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)
  • Experience in field engineering, systems integration, or technical installations
  • Counter Drone / counter‑UAS system experience
  • Experience with security, RF, sensor, or surveillance technologies
  • Practical experience in training or presenting demonstrations

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Practical experience operating drones as part of testing, trials, or technical activities
  • CAA‑recognised drone pilot qualification
  • Existing SC clearance
  • Familiarity with compliance‑driven or safety‑critical delivery environments
  • IT / Networking experience
  • Strong fault‑finding and troubleshooting capability
  • Experience working with technical suppliers or third‑party vendors to resolve issues
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in regulated or controlled environments
  • Understanding of installation, maintenance, and quality assurance processes
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and service quality
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the UK, with occasional overseas travel
