Why this job matters

In this role, you'll lead the development of commercially sound and practical exit strategies that meet contractual commitments while protecting the value and profitability of ongoing services. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you'll play a key role in delivering smooth customer transitions, managing risk, and supporting successful business outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

• Build strong relationships with senior customer stakeholders, acting as the commercial lead for all contract, service exit, and contractual discussions.
• Develop a thorough understanding of customer contracts, commercial commitments, governance processes, and service obligations.
• Support Contract Managers and Business Managers with customer negotiations, service changes, contract evolution, and exit planning.
• Work with customers to develop practical, commercially sound, and executable service exit strategies throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Lead and contribute to planning workshops, governance meetings, and commercial reviews to ensure successful service transitions.
• Translate customer requirements into clear commercial actions, delivery plans, and cross-functional workstreams.
• Coordinate impact assessments by bringing together technical, operational, programme, engineering, and finance teams to evaluate proposed service changes.
• Assess the commercial, contractual, operational, and delivery impacts of service exits, identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities.
• Present recommendations and commercial insights that support informed customer and business decision-making.
• Partner with Finance and Contract Managers to evaluate the financial impact of contract changes, including profitability, pricing, and cost recovery.
• Develop commercial solutions that protect the profitability and sustainability of remaining services while meeting customer requirements.
• Identify and manage commercial risks, recommending mitigation strategies to minimise business impact.
• Maintain accurate records of customer proposals, commercial assessments, and agreed actions, ensuring effective governance and reporting.
• Produce clear management information and reports to support governance forums, commercial reviews, and senior leadership decision-making.
• Track actions through to completion, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery across multiple teams.

The skills you’ll need

• Proven experience in contract or commercial management within complex, regulated, defence, government, or outsourced service environments.
• Strong understanding of contract management, commercial governance, and contractual obligations.
• Experience building trusted relationships and supporting customer-facing commercial discussions with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams to assess the commercial, operational, technical, and financial impact of contract changes.
• Experience evaluating service changes, transitions, or contract variations, with the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
• Good commercial and financial awareness, including pricing principles, cost recovery, and profit and loss considerations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear recommendations.
