Eligibility Criteria

• If you have an active PIP/Disciplinary sanctions then you cannot apply for a role internally for the duration of that sanction. In circumstances when you are in a disciplinary process but the outcome hasn’t been reached or there is an active appeal then you can apply, however, the Offer could be withdrawn if, subsequently, you’re issued with a sanction or your appeal is unsuccessful.

About the role

The Cloud Engineering Specialist independently implements core infrastructure and security services in Amazon Web Services to deliver highly available and scalable services, automating time intensive processes whilst and meeting security and compliance objectives in all aspects of the secure cloud ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing

1. Leads cloud system design activities and/or reviews system designs to assure that solutions will exhibit expected levels of performance, security, scalability, security, maintainability, appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment
2. Manages automation initiatives of cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration management, self-service, infrastructure-as-code services, auto scale initiatives, and DevOps deployment
3. Communicates with key stakeholders to influence the adoption of cloud-native systems and helps to inform stakeholders on how to use platform capabilities effectively through appropriate venue
4. Delivers consultative advice through advanced technical knowledge on system architecture and recommend solutions in alignment with systems engineering best practices
5. Leads the collaboration with quality assurance and technical writers to complete development cycle
6. Leads the collaboration with business stakeholders and product owners to scope and de-risk development activities in advance
7. Executes complex data analyses to make decisions on where to invest and iterate on efficiency and cloud management tools
8. Drives a risk-aware culture, and ensures efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes
9. Ensures efficient functioning of data storage and processing functions in accordance with company security policies and best practices in cloud security
10. Identifies, analyses, and resolves complex infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues independently
11. Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in cloud engineering best practices and industry standards
12. Mentors other cloud engineers, helping to improve the team's abilities by acting as a technical resource

Essential Skills / Experience

AWS Platform & Account Management
• Design and manage multi-account AWS environments using best-practice account structures.
• Set up and manage AWS accounts for enterprise teams using AWS Organizations.
• Define account-level guardrails, policies, and governance standards.
• Manage networking foundations including VPCs, subnets, routing, and connectivity.

Core AWS Services Expertise
• Architect, deploy, and operate solutions using:
o EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
o AWS Lambda
o API Gateway
o SNS, SQS
o EC2, Auto Scaling
o IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
• Support both containerized and serverless workloads.

Kubernetes & Container Platforms
• Design, deploy, and operate EKS clusters at scale.
• Manage cluster upgrades, autoscaling, networking, and security.
• Define best practices for containerization using Docker.
• Support workload isolation, namespace strategies, and cluster observability.

DevOps & CI/CD Enablement
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments.
• Promote GitOps and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Standardize deployment patterns across teams.
• Enable self-service capabilities for development teams.

Security & Quality Scans
• Implement and manage:
o Infrastructure security scans
o Container image vulnerability scans
o Compliance and policy enforcement
• Work with security teams to address vulnerabilities and audit findings.
• Enforce IAM best practices, least privilege access, and secrets management.

Cost Optimization & FinOps
• Monitor and optimize AWS costs across accounts and services.
• Implement tagging strategies for cost allocation.
• Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives (rightsizing, savings plans, reserved instances).
• Partner with teams to build cost-aware architectures.

Observability & Reliability
• Implement centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Improve platform reliability using SRE and operational excellence practices.
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets where applicable.
• Support incident response and root cause analysis.

DevOps Standards & Best Practices
• Define and enforce DevOps standards across the organization.
• Drive automation-first and cloud-native principles.
• Coach teams on CI/CD, reliability, and operational best practices.
• Reduce manual effort and operational toil.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• 8+ years of experience in DevOps / Cloud Engineering.
• Deep hands-on experience with AWS core services.
• Strong expertise in EKS and Kubernetes.
• Solid experience with serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway).
• Experience managing enterprise AWS accounts using AWS Organizations.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and pipelines.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and IAM.
• Proven experience in cost optimization and FinOps.
