About the role

Group Business Assurance (GBA) operates as a 2nd Line of defence, assuring the end to end (E2E) accuracy of supplier and customer charging, whilst giving insight and consultancy to the business on improvements and optimisation opportunities.


Define, develop and execute the Network & Usage related Group Business Asurance strategy, across BT Products, Services and Contracts, for the specific CFU (Customer Facing Unit) area of responsibility.


Provide expert consultancy across BT Group, based on industry best practice, and the indepth BT End to End system & product knowledge. Provide issue management support, whether from issue identifcaiton, revenue / cost recovery or through to root cause management. Ownership or governance of the regulatory controls that are key to BT’s regulatory compliance to OFCOM, and Financial key control compliance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the Rating & Test Event Generation (TEG) Network & Usage (N&U) Business Assurance team, in a pan BT role, that provides specialist Assurance capability and accountability.
  • Acountable for business engagement across a wide range of BT stakeholders at career level B and C, for the relevant area of responsibility.
  • Uses advanced business assurance knowledge & risk methodologies, to conduct coverage and risk assessments, in order to prioritise which areas require new business assurance controls.
  • Own and deliver Business Assurance control development projects through to delivery, aligned to department strategy – from business case creation, securing investment, through to requirements gathering, design sign off, development, user acceptance testing through to deployment into operations .
  • Identifies key opportunities for improvement and transformation, at both operational and strategic level and drives implementation.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of Business Assurance Analysts, Advisors and/or Specialists, providing coaching and development support, with roles based in both the UK and India.
  • Management of third-party suppliers
  • Ownership for the root cause analysis and root cause management, focused on Digital or Networks areas, for the applicable Assurance remit of their role (working with relevant N&U CFU lead and/or Assurance Operations). Ensuring the business takes ownership to either implement required process/system imrovements or formally document & register business acceptance of the risk.
  • To pro-actively investigate & lead on new areas of leakage or margin improvement (Revenue and Cost) for specific area of responsibility, including holding relevant areas to account on resolution of issues identified.
  • Governance role across new Assurance control build and Assurance Operations, to ensure applicable controls are operated effectively, timely and accurately. Driving escalation and support resolution where issues occur
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory controls and Financial key control compliance.
  • Control development life cycle - from requirement gathering, prioritisation, approval of funding & resource requirements, design sign off, user acceptance testing through to deployment into operations.
  • Ensuring appropriate process documents are in place, for both direct team & Assurance Operations

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Exerience of working within following areas of business specialism: Business assurance, risk, compliance, network, business operations, audit, billing, or contract
  • Significant Telcom or Utilities industry experience
  • Experience in data analysis and designing, documenting & maintaining Controls to mitigate risk.
  • Story-telling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on various data sets and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
  • Problem Solving: Often finding solutions to problems that the business don’t even know they have yet! Or reactive, in investiging business impacting issues in order to identify the root cause(s) and propose options to resolve

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
  • Complex Business Assurance Activities: and an ability to articulate to stakeholders.
  • Risk management: Ability to provide expert risk-based insight to influence and instigate change, as a trusted business partner
  • BQF LP+ or Six Sigma Green belt+ preferred
    People management experience, including management of resource based in UK and India. Plus management of analytical \ technical \ specialized roles
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the type of end to end systems and processes, that are required to accurately capture and process event records, from ‘network’ to ‘billing’
