Software Asset Manager

Role Description:
As the Software Asset Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring end-to-end management of software renewals, ensuring commercial optimisation, risk mitigation, and alignment with organisational licensing and technology strategies. This role partners closely with ICT, Finance, Commercial, and vendors to drive cost savings, improve renewal governance, and support long-term software asset management objectives.
Core Duties:
- Conduct detailed license and subscription usage analysis to inform the renewal decision making process
- Manage new and existing agreements regarding Government Furnished Equipment
- Track vendor lifecycles, product roadmaps, and ICT requirements
- Lead negotiations with software vendors to achieve cost savings, improved contractual terms, and increased flexibility
- Prepare negotiation strategies, business cases, and approval documentation for senior stakeholders
- Partner with Finance and project management functions to support budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and multi-year cost planning for software spend and supporting estimation
- Collaborate with Legal to review and negotiate contractual terms and end user licence agreements, compliance obligations, audit clauses, and exit provisions
- Support software audits and true-up activities, minimizing financial and compliance exposure
- Produce regular reports on renewal status, savings achieved, risks, and upcoming commitments
- Contribute to continuous improvement of renewal governance, templates, and procurement best practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert for software renewals.
About You:
- Extensive experience in a procurement role where responsibilities included software licensing models, renewal negotiation, and vendor management
- Excellent communication skills required, both written and verbal
- Team orientated with a lean in approach
- Excellent time management skills and be a motivated self-starter with high attention to detail
- Organisational and problem-solving skills
- An ability to work and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- A flexible and can do attitude
- Computer literacy, with intermediate knowledge of MS Suite. Familiarity with tools like SharePoint and Oracle is desirable
- Ability to hold and maintain Government Security Clearance
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role
The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) PROJECT
The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief and rescue operations
