Role Description:

We are looking for a Commercial Manager to join us. Using your exceptional stakeholder management skills and strong business acumen, you will be working with the Commercial team within our Surface Ships line of business supporting the Hunter Class Frigates. Your contribution will ensure the best commercial outcomes for the Customer and the business whilst contributing to the support of the Australian Defence Forces.

Core Duties:

  • Support all contract activity including the drafting and negotiation of complex terms and conditions and associated agreements with customers
  • Draft moderately complex contracts / agreements with little supervision Support to all Contract and Bid Status Reviews to justify, explain and clear ongoing commercial contract activities
  • Accountable for day to day management of contracts within commercial area of relevant BAE Systems Australia businesses
  • Responsible for all commercial aspects of business winning
  • Manage contract activities including negotiation of contract change and management of claims
  • Responsible for delivery of contract budgets
  • Ensure that the business’s financial and commercial exposures are addressed through appropriate commercial contract frameworks such as export controls, finance, product safety (including insurance) and intellectual property rights
  • Responsible for delivery of commercial interface with Procurement/Supply Chain and flow down of commercial contract requirements
  • Provide support to all commercial agreements to support team activity
  • Responsible for preparation and delivery of Commercial Management Plans
  • Support and develop junior members of the team
  • Responsible for preparation of negotiating strategies and lead negotiating teams

About You:

  • Extensive experience in a Commercial role
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of commercial skills and the commercial role
  • Strategic mindset
  • Team orientation with a high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and from a range of disciplines
  • An ability to lead or support moderately complex negotiations
  • Adept at building and maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • An ability to resolve complex problems that do not have routine solutions
  • An ability to lead and guide a team and work independently with little supervision and guidance and using own experience, judgement and initiative
  • Computer literacy, with intermediate knowledge of MS Suite. Familiarity with tools like SharePoint and Oracle is desirable
  • Eligibility to hold and maintain Defence Security Clearance
