Job Description:

In this role, through leading and coordinating energetics engineering activities within the IDT, providing technical direction and oversight across programmers and projects.

This will be achieved developing test strategies and lead the planning, execution, and analysis of both destructive and non-destructive testing activities to validate material and product performance. You will also lead technical engagement with procurement and supply chain functions, ensuring energetic materials and associated components are sourced, assessed, and approved in accordance with safety, quality, and performance requirements.

Core duties:

  • You will drive the research, development, and optimisation of new and existing energetic formulations, ensuring solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will provide specialist technical advice and guidance to senior engineering stakeholders and project teams
  • You will plan and execute small-scale energetic material mixing and characterisation activities to support research, development, and product improvement initiatives
  • You will provide technical support to production-scale energetic material manufacturing, ensuring safe, consistent, and efficient processes are maintained
  • You will Champion the organisation’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) standards by taking personal responsibility for health and safety, complying with all relevant policies, procedures, training and instructions, proactively reporting hazards and incidents, and ensuring equipment and facilities are used safely and as intended

Essential Skills:

  • You will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably Polymer Chemistry.
  • You will have proven practical laboratory skills with demonstrable experience working in a research, development, or testing environment
  • You will demonstrate excellent technical report writing, data analysis, and documentation skills, this will be showcased through your ability to convey complex information to a range of stakeholders
  • You will have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team while adhering to rigorous safety, quality, and regulatory processes, this will be demonstrated through effective problem-solving skills to resolve technical challenges
  • You will have past experience of working with energetics

The Engineering Team:

As a Senior Energetics Materials Engineer, you will support a broad range of activities within the BAE Systems Maritime and Land Defence Solutions business. You will lead Energetics Materials activities within the Advanced Weapons and Munitions Support (AWMS) Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), including R&D, investigative work, support to production and defining specifications for materials procurement and testing.Working as part of a team of multi-disciplined engineers, the role will ensure that our products meet exacting quality and performance requirements.
