We work collaboratively across 10 countries to collect, connect and understand complex data, so that governments, nation states, armed forces and commercial businesses can unlock digital advantage in the most demanding environments.

BAE Systems Digital Intelligence (DI) is home to 4,500 digital, cyber and intelligence experts globally. We work collaboratively to collect, connect and understand complex data, so that governments, nation states, armed forces, CNI organisations and commercial businesses can unlock digital advantage in the most demanding environments.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an independent and self-sufficient individual to join DI’s Commercial function and provide commercial support and guidance on international business in the APAC region. Our mission, as the Commercial function, is to provide trusted advice, expertise and resources that enable the business to win and deliver successful contracts and grow a sustainable and valued business for DI and our customers. The Commercial function supports and partners with our global business, acting as a strategic advisor within its specialist area, to facilitate the company to engage in appropriately balanced, risk-assessed and profitable business.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Commercial Officer, based in Singapore, to join the International Commercial Team, covering all stages of business winning and advisory support throughout the bid and contract cycle, from helping to shape commercial deals through to contract negotiation, closure and in-life management.

As a Senior Commercial Officer, you will be a vital contact between stakeholders and a key player in providing Commercial services, support and implementation of strategy to meet the needs of our fast-paced business and customers. You will have the opportunity to lead proposals, contracts and changes, as well as support discussions with a variety of customers. Collaborating with your commercial colleagues, you will also be able to participate in more complex opportunities, helping to shape the agreements we negotiate, influencing the price build-up, and then seeing through the execution of commercial planning.

The remit of the role is primarily focused on the APAC region, but there may also be potential opportunities to support business in other regions, which would further expose you to a diverse range of geographies, cultures and business practices.

Location & Ways of Working:

The role is based in our Singapore office, but the Commercial function embraces new ways of working in a hybrid manner, which includes the ability to work between home and the office. Some international travel may be required from time to time.

Key accountabilities:

  • Acting as a customer interface for proposals and contractual matters
  • Supporting the negotiation and closure of customer contracts
  • Providing guidance to the business on commercial issues and internal governance
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and devising appropriate mitigations
  • Preparing proposals, contracts, SOWs and changes
  • Providing contract management support activities and commercial guidance throughout the contract lifecycle, incl. handling claims and disputes
  • Proactively engaging other functions to enhance the commercial solution
  • Managing back-to-back and flow-down risks
  • Developing and applying knowledge of the products and services
  • Influencing the price build-up, including recommending commercial contingencies

What we are looking for:

  • Circa 5+ years of experience in commercial contracting, with some overseas contracting knowledge preferred
  • Some experience working on Singapore (and overseas) government contracts
  • Knowledge of contract law and legal issues, standard IP issues and experience of drafting and negotiating terms and conditions
  • Knowledge of various types of contracts, agreements, contracting structures and mechanisms
  • Basic financial skills, relating to price-build, profitability requirements and payment models
  • Ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities and devise appropriate mitigations
  • Experience of managing sub-contract considerations
  • Experience of in-contract management issues, including changes, claims and disputes
  • Enthusiasm, with a high level of self-motivation, and the ability to prioritize workload
  • Good communications skills and the maturity to forge good working relationships with peers, colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ability to understand and work in different cultural situations and business practices

As this position requires a G50 security clearance, only Singaporean citizens are eligible to apply.
