Role Description

We currently have opportunities for Software Developers to join our Web Applications team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Opportunities include 12-month fixed-term engagements directly with BAE Systems.

Working in a collaborative team environment, you will be part of an Agile development team responsible for bringing digital products into the shipyard, as we design and develop web applications using JavaScript, React, Java/Quarkus under the Atlassian/GitLab suite of tools. This role will suit people seeking to be a part of the shipyard digital transformation while developing a wide range of skills across a number of foundational products and services, in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Core Duties:

  • Develop and maintain web applications for the shipyard as part of an Agile team, in a collaborative development environment
  • Attend daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives, and liaise with business analysts and UX specialists to deliver and enhance our software products
  • Contribute to the estimating, detailed design and planning effort for each software release
  • Contribute to a well maintained codebase through code reviews and testing, using various tools for code analysis and performance, keeping documentation up to date and through proper configuration management
  • Contribute to software process improvement and team development by sharing knowledge and experience with the team
  • Champion digital innovation and leverage new technologies and methodologies

About YOU

  • Web application development, ideally using JavaScript (React/Angular)
  • Experience with Java, Quarkus, Wildfly and/or Spring Boot in a containerised service environment
  • Familiarity with the Agile development process and the Atlassian suite of tools, Git, Bitbucket or GitLab
  • Familiarity with developing software for Defence projects, including reviewing, testing and maintaining code. Some familiarity with shipyard or manufacturing environments would also be an advantage
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline would be desirable.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain Baseline Clearance
