Location: Portsmouth Broad Oak, Hybrid – 4 days on-site during training, followed by flexible hybrid working with no fixed days

Salary: Circa £32,000 depending on experience

Job Description:

As a Procurement Professional, you will oversee procurement activities across a range of long-term projects, with a particular focus on software procurement. You will govern project orderbooks, source goods and services, coordinate supplier delivery, and resolve issues that could impact programme requirements. Working closely with Project Management, Engineering, Goods In and suppliers, you will provide procurement guidance and ensure requirements are delivered in line with governance, export controls and agreed timescales.

Core duties:

• Oversee procurement activities, including RFQs, purchase orders, expediting, orderbook management and invoice processing
• Coordinate supply chain activities across projects, working with PM, Engineering, Goods In and suppliers to support on-time delivery
• Monitor orderbooks and address supplier delays or changes, escalating risks where required to minimise programme impact
• Responsible for ensuring software orders are placed in accordance with agreed functional governance and software register is maintained accordingly.
• Build effective supplier and stakeholder relationships, providing procurement guidance and contributing to continuous improvement across the Supply Chain function

Essential Skills:

• Procurement experience ideally within high‑volume, fast‑paced, or regulated environments such as defence, or manufacturing; and a continuous improvement mindset, alongside examples of identifying opportunities and contributing to solutions
• Experience coordinating supply chain order books, including high volumes of purchase orders, updates, queries, and invoices
• Able to interpret procurement and supplier data, identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and apply governance and process controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency
• Considerable IT capability, including ERP systems (such as SAP) and advanced Excel skills, plus the ability to compile data for reports and presentations
• Experience working across suppliers, procurement and cross-functional teams to coordinate requirements, resolve issues and support delivery

The Central Procurement – Combat Systems Team:

The Central Procurement Team within Combat Systems supports long-term in-service programmes, working closely across projects and functions to meet changing requirements. The team manages procurement across hardware and an increasing portfolio of software, offering exposure to evolving technologies and varied supplier activities.
