Job Description:

As a Commercial Officer, you will be part of a collaborative and experienced Commercial team within our Underwater Battlespace (UWB) and Future Products (FP) sector. Supporting Senior Commercial Officers and Commercial Managers, you will help deliver commercial services that enable successful project and business outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to apply commercial processes in line with business requirements and delegated authority, while developing experience across a range of contract types. You’ll build valuable commercial and business knowledge, with clear opportunities for professional growth within the Maritime sector and across BAE Systems.

Core duties:

  • You will provide commercial support and contract management across a portfolio of projects, programmes and campaigns
  • Take responsibility for routine bid activities by preparing commercial proposals, reviewing contract terms and conditions and contract documentation (including NDAs), and attending Customer meetings
  • Collaborate with projects, business development, finance, legal and customers to manage contracts, attend meetings, support contract queries, create reports, request milestone payments and identify opportunities for contract growth
  • Lead the commercial bid approval process for routine bids by presenting the bid pack to secure approvals, engaging specialist functions as required
  • Build good stakeholder relationships, including supply chain partners, ensuring contractual obligations are effectively managed and communicated

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in customer facing commercial, contract administration or supply chain environments, supported by solid communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Understanding of core contracting principles and the ability to apply them effectively in practice
  • Good financial awareness, with the ability to interpret pricing information and support informed decision-making
  • Collaborative approach, building positive relationships across teams, customers and stakeholders

The Underwater Battle space and Future Products Team:

We deliver advanced underwater and naval weapon systems that give navies a decisive advantage in the underwater battlespace. Working with the UK MOD, international partners and industry, we design, develop and manufacture innovative undersea technologies. Our proven expertise and sustained investment ensure credible submarine operations and protection against increasingly sophisticated underwater threats worldwide.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
