About the OPPORTUNITY

We have a great opportunity for a Network Engineer to join our Central Functions line of business based at Melbourne.

At BAE Systems Australia, we are embarking on an exciting phase in our networking environment, with a range of initiatives underway to introduce best-of-breed technologies that support our digital business goals.

As a Network Engineer reporting to the Network Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting the corporate network infrastructure, with a strong focus on day-to-day operations and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve assigned support incidents, outages, and performance degradation
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to provide efficient support and with vendors to resolve technical issues
  • Configure and manage network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points
  • Perform network upgrades, patches, and changes in line with change management processes
  • Identify opportunities to enhance systems and processes, driving efficiency and technological innovation
  • Assist in specifying, designing and implementing aspects of the WAN and LAN networks that meet or exceed industry standard best practices
  • Provide network consultancy and assistance to customers, in the design, set to work & troubleshooting of networks & customer deliverables
  • Implement and maintain network security controls including segmentation, access controls, firewall rules, policies, and best practices
  • Support cloud and hybrid networking environments (e.g. Azure)
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and asset records
  • Participate in the on-call roster providing out-of-hours support for key systems

About YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience + vendor certifications) preferred
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills demonstrated through decision-making and problem solving
  • Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve network and connectivity issues
  • Solid foundational knowledge of networking protocols and functions
  • Ability to contribute to and thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms
  • Proven experience supporting and maintaining enterprise network environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco LAN/WAN, Cisco Wireless, F5, Cisco ISE, Riverbed is desirable
  • Experience with SDN and in-particular Cisco ACI and Cisco DNA Centre is desirable
  • Experience with Network Automation using Ansible, Python, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines would be an advantage
  • Cloud networking experience would be an advantage
  • Understanding of ITIL-based processes such as incident, problem, and change management
  • Working understanding of the ASD’s Infrastructure Security manual (ISM)
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CCNA, Network+, or equivalent experience) desirable but not essential
  • Defence security clearance (NV2) or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
