Role Description:

You will be working across all aspects of Insurable Risk Management, where your role will be responsible for the identification and understanding of the insurable risk profile, including but not limited to assets, liabilities, business interruption and people exposures for BAE Systems Australia.

The Insurable Risk Manager will work closely with Group Insurable Risk (GIR) and follow strategic direction aligned with the PLC strategy, to best identify & understand risk exposures for BAE Systems Australia.

This position will place local insurance policies as required or consulted by Group Insurable Risk (GIR), and provide insurance advice, manage relationships with stakeholders and advise/ negotiate insurable risk in commercial and procurement contracts to bring about preferred contracting positions for the Company

Core Duties:

  • Manage insurable risk within the assigned business, co-ordinating and responding to insurable risk enquiries, visits, meetings including advising on insurance and deferring to GIR as necessary for support
  • Accountable for delivering knowledge transfer across the Australian Business in relation to Insurance processes and responsibilities in data collection and disclosure of material facts, contractual risk and Risk Management
  • Management of local insurance policies in Australia (and other countries in Asia Pacific) as required by the business and instructed/ advised by GIR
  • Support contract reviews to identify risk exposures and advise on risk management strategies aligned with GIR guidance, including referral to GIR where required to determine appropriate risk reduction or transfer (e.g. insurance). Following review, assist relevant job holders in updating the GIR contractual risk management tool and escalating issues as necessary
  • Manage the preparation of insurance premium budgets for the assigned business, taking into account the advice from GIR (on likely re-charges for group placed policies etc.), including exposure changes and insurance market fluctuations and to manage costs within budgets and ensure GIR informed of changes that may impact budgets
  • Support the GIR Claims Manager to manage applicable losses within the assigned businesses, and help ensure compliance with corporate claims protocols, guidelines and procedures. This includes the management of the uninsured losses and recovery of claims monies from insurers and third parties
  • Proactively working with the assigned business and GIR to develop Maximum Foreseeable Loss scenarios (where applicable) or loss scenarios, through the presentation of information, analysis and calculations preparing these for FD sign off each year

About You

  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and proactively communicate material issues to Relevant Stakeholders (within the assigned Businesses, GIR, etc.)
  • Understanding of insurable risk management operations to enable the role holder to speak about risk financing, premium allocation, claims, asset valuation & loss prevention to inform Finance Directors & other key stakeholders
  • Insurance or risk management qualification and/ or a combination of training and experience within insurance and risk management experience preferable
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, especially in Word, Excel and PowerPoint with proficiency using a SharePoint environment
  • Extensive experience working in Corporate Insurance or Risk Management field
  • Demonstrated understanding of procedures and practices of the insurance market with experience in Property, Liability, Aviation and Marine Insurance preferable
  • Demonstrated experience with communicating effectively with Senior and Executive Management
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain NV1 Australian Defence Security Clearance.

The Business Risk and Resilience Team

Our team work across the entire BAE Systems Australia enterprise specifically engaging with Finance, Commercial and Procurement, where we actively contribute to and support the Insurance strategic direction.

Understanding of insurable risk management operations will be key to enabling the role holder to speak about risk financing, premium allocation, claims, asset valuation & loss prevention to inform Finance Directors & other key stakeholders

The role holder would have extensive experience working in Corporate Insurance or Risk Management field, and have demonstrated understanding of procedures and practices of the insurance market with experience in Property, Liability, Aviation and Marine Insurance preferable
