Job Description

The team

The Tax team manage the global tax and customs affairs of ASOS including direct taxes, transfer pricing, indirect taxes, customs compliance, employment taxes, process improvement and transformation and tax governance and risk management. The Tax team are a function that works closely with our technology colleagues to leverage data and technology to operate increasingly efficient and streamlined processes. The team focus on risk mitigation, ensuring compliance and providing agile and responsive business partnering that creates value for ASOS.

The details

As Senior Indirect Tax analyst, your role will focus on indirect tax compliance and risk management across the global business. You will support the business on complying with indirect tax requirements as it continues to evolve, together with managing the indirect tax risk, including dealing with tax authority audits and ensuring compliance with legislative change. It also covers oversight of end-to-end VAT and Sales Tax compliance and reporting processes. It will also identify opportunities for improvement of processes and work closely with the Tax Transformation team to deliver indirect tax process improvements and automation.

  • Working with advisors to prepare and submit indirect tax returns (and any other closely associated returns) mainly in overseas jurisdictions, including US Sales Tax and OSS (one-stop-shop). There may be instances where returns are prepared and filed in-house;
  • Coordinating with Treasury to ensure that VAT payments are made on a timely basis;
  • Working with Finance to ensure accurate end to end accounting, including correct tax codes, accurate balance sheet reconciliations and data integrity;
  • Identifying data risks and issues through analysis of large data sets, and work with the Tax Transformation and Fintech teams to resolve the underlying data & systems issues;
  • Working with the Tax Transformation and the broader Tax team to identify and implement improvements to indirect tax processes, including working with tax determination engines and being involved in the delivery of automation projects and ensuring that indirect tax processes are up to date and documented;
  • Identifying potential indirect tax risks and cash savings opportunities, and lead initiative(s) to manage the risks or realise the opportunities.
  • Supporting with the sourcing and analysis of data to respond to queries from tax authorities across Europe and the rest of the world;
  • Supporting external auditors with providing appropriate supporting documentation, if requested; and
  • Dealing with communication and queries from local tax authorities.
  • Reviewing large data sets to identify outliers and trends to aid in root cause analysis

Qualifications

About you

An Experienced Indirect Tax specialist (ACCA/ATT qualified or equivalent) who has a strong awareness of European indirect tax and US Sales Tax, and good awareness of global indirect tax, particularly relating to the retail e-commerce industry.

Someone with a high level of experience in reconciling multiple data sets, skills in Excel & other self-serve data manipulation and reporting tools such as Alteryx & Power BI, excellent attention to detail, especially when working with large data sets, and a logical approach to being able to present large volumes of data and analysis for review by management.

Someone with a proven ability to plan and prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines, an ability to organise own work and to take initiative and good communication/interpersonal and influencing skills. In addition, the candidate should be proactive, flexible and open to change.
