Empowering Product Managers to deliver strategy with confidence
The Product Manager is a senior leadership role that bridges strategic product vision, set by the Head of Product, with the execution delivered by Product Owners across the organisation. This role is pivotal in translating product strategy, capability development, and coaching frameworks into clear guardrails, priorities, and roadmaps that enable Product Owners to operate effectively and consistently at scale.
Working closely and leading the digital Product Owners, senior business leaders, and cross-functional partners, the Product Manager ensures that individual product strategies and roadmaps are aligned to Anglian Water’s wider business objectives. The role maintains strong collaborative relationships with Engineering, Architecture, and other enterprise digital and data capabilities to support the delivery, operation, and continuous enhancement of digital, data, and technology products.
The Product Manager spans all strategic planning forums requiring product management input, ensuring coherence between business strategy, product direction, and execution outcomes. In this capacity, they are responsible for coaching, supporting, and guiding Product Owners, enabling effective coordination of product strategy across multiple domains.
The role works in close partnership with the Head of Product to shape and evolve the organisation’s Product Management strategy, ensuring it is clearly communicated, consistently applied, and successfully realised through collective team delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Product Manager will provide strategic leadership for Product Ownership at scale, shaping how digital product teams operate, make decisions, and deliver value across Anglian Water. They will coach and develop Product Owners, define clear product management guardrails, and build a strong, consistent product capability across the organisation.
They will oversee and align the organisation’s product portfolios, ensuring priorities, roadmaps, investment, and costs are coordinated and deliver measurable business and customer value. Working closely with the Head of Product, Head of Technology and senior stakeholders, they will translate product strategy into actionable plans, manage budgets and total cost of ownership, and support robust planning, risk management, and ROI evaluation.
The role will actively engage senior stakeholders, conduct market and competitive research, and establish feedback loops to ensure product strategy remains relevant, customer-focused, and future-ready. As a people leader, they will foster a safe, inclusive, high-performing culture that prioritises wellbeing, continuous improvement, and accountability, while inspiring teams to deliver excellent outcomes for customers, communities, and the environment.
What does it take to be a Product Manager – Digital?
We’re looking for a senior product leader who communicates with clarity and influence, able to engage stakeholders, understand complex needs, and balance competing priorities. They will have a strong track record of leading strategic change and improving product capability at scale, fostering a culture of continuous development and learning.
The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, working effectively across disciplines to align teams and deliver shared outcomes. They will be experienced in shaping and executing product strategy, managing backlogs, and driving customer-focused innovation using Agile and Scrum principles. Above all, they will lead with empathy and integrity, demonstrating inclusive leadership that inspires teams, builds trust, and champions diversity.
Experience and Qualifications:
Educational Background: Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience in role
Certifications: Certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO1) PSPO2 or similar are often beneficial, Scrum at Scale
Scaled agile & product Management: Scaled Agile experience of working across multiple Agile teams.
Relevant Experience: Prior experience in product management, Agile, Scrum, DevOps modes of operation, business analysis, or a related role in software development.
User-Centred Design: Awareness of UX principles and the value of intuitive, user-friendly designs, backed by user research and feedback mechanisms.
Basic understanding of the technology stack, allowing effective communication with developers and understanding of potential technical constraints.
