Job Description

Job Title: Standards & Products Manager

Location: Peterborough (Hybrid Working)

Salary: £64,000

Our Team

Are you passionate about setting the standards that shape the assets of the future? Do you want to play a leading role in ensuring Anglian Water’s assets are safe, sustainable and deliver long-term value for our customers and the environment?

Over the coming years, Anglian Water will deliver one of the largest capital investment programmes in the UK water sector — nearly £3 billion over the next five years — to respond to environmental and customer needs. From major new reservoirs and advanced water treatment centres to hundreds of miles of pipelines, we’re building the infrastructure that will serve millions across the East of England for decades to come.

Our Asset Standards Team plays a pivotal role in defining what “good” looks like for these assets. We turn business intelligence into clear, practical standards that empower engineers, designers and delivery partners to build world-class, maintainable and resilient infrastructure. Our standards shape every stage of design and construction, ensuring best practice, innovation, safety and sustainability are embedded throughout.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Standards & Products Manager to lead our talented Standards and Products Team.

As the custodian of Anglian Water’s asset standards, you’ll define and deliver the strategy for our Minimum Asset Standards (MAS), Design Manuals and Standard Products. You’ll ensure that our standards system continues to evolve to meet future business needs, embedding lessons learned and innovation to deliver the best balanced value — protecting both our customers and the environment.

You’ll lead a team of engineers and specialists, ensuring governance, collaboration and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do. Working across Anglian Water and our alliance partners, you’ll enable efficiency, consistency and innovation across the capital programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and Deliver Strategy: Develop and maintain the strategic direction for Anglian Water’s asset standards and products. Ensure alignment with the Chief Engineer’s Office, Commercial Operations and our delivery alliances. Lead the team’s priorities, manage external relationships, and foster a culture focused on safety and excellence.
  • Maintain and Improve Standards: Oversee the continuous improvement of our Minimum Asset Standards (MAS), Design Manuals and Specifications. Ensure alignment with national and international standards (CESWI, WIMES, British Standards) and capture best practice from across the industry.
  • Standard Products Development: Lead the creation and improvement of our standard products and proven designs in collaboration with engineering, innovation, and procurement teams. Drive the adoption of best practice solutions that enhance quality, reduce cost and carbon, and support safe, efficient construction.
  • Governance and Collaboration: Operate robust governance systems to ensure all voices are heard and decisions are transparent and well-evidenced. Engage across the business and alliances to ensure our standards reflect operational experience, innovation and commercial priorities.
  • Communicate, Educate and Inspire: Promote the value of standardisation across Anglian Water and our partners. Develop and deliver training, share best practice, and ensure our systems and standards are accessible, clear and easy to use.

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll be an accomplished engineering professional with experience leading teams, delivering technical excellence, and managing governance processes. With strong communication and influencing skills, you’ll be able to balance technical rigour with business needs to deliver effective, sustainable solutions.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) status through a relevant professional body
  • Significant experience in engineering design or construction, ideally in water, networks or related infrastructure
  • Proven leadership and line management experience
  • Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience of mentoring, coaching and developing colleagues
  • Sound understanding of safety, regulatory and environmental standards

You’ll be resilient, adaptable and able to navigate complex challenges — confident in bringing people together to deliver results that balance cost, carbon, safety and long-term resilience.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a forward-thinking team shaping the future of sustainable infrastructure and asset management.
  • Lead a team of skilled professionals and collaborate across the entire capital delivery ecosystem.
  • Influence major engineering decisions that will define the infrastructure of tomorrow.
  • Enhance your career with exposure to complex challenges and opportunities for professional growth.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in our Peterborough office, with hybrid working and occasional visits to operational or partner construction sites. On average, you’ll spend 2–3 days per week working in person to build strong relationships across teams.

Benefits

As a valued employee, you’ll receive:

  • Personal private healthcare
  • Life cover – 8x annual salary paid to dependents
  • 26 days’ annual leave (rising with service) plus bank holidays, with flexibility to swap for alternative religious holidays
  • Flexible working options
  • Competitive pension scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 6%
