Job description

Strategy Manager

Accenture Commodity Markets & Trading

Location: London, UK

About Accenture CEO Advisory

Accenture CEO Advisory works with chief executives, boards and their leadership teams on the decisions that set enterprise direction: where to compete, what to own, how to fund a shift in the portfolio, and what the operating model has to become to support it. The work sits upstream of execution but is judged on whether it survives contact with it, so we pair industry depth with the quantitative, technology and delivery capability to pressure-test an answer before a client commits capital behind it.

About Accenture Commodity Markets

Accenture Commodity Markets (ACM), part of Accenture CEO Advisory, is a global practice operating across multiple industries. It is one of the few global strategy practices offering breadth of cross-industry exposure alongside genuinely global project experience, working with organisations focused on commodity production, trading, logistics and marketing.

We combine industry knowledge across energy, chemicals, soft commodities, agriculture, metals, mining, utilities, transportation and consumer goods with analytics-led core strategy consulting, digital and AI capability. Within Accenture we are known for the variety and complexity of the problems we take on, a close-knit global team, early responsibility for our people, rapid career progression and international exposure, having delivered projects in over 25 countries.

Our solution areas

  • Investment and Asset Portfolio Optimisation: portfolio strategy, capital allocation, long-term market modelling, M&A support, and integrated optimisation across physical and financial positions.

  • Trading and Market Optimisation: trading strategy, positioning and risk management through advanced analytics, real-time insight, hedging, algorithmic trading and P&L attribution.

  • Commodity Markets Decision Platforms, Ecosystem and Execution: AI-enabled decision platforms, CTRM/ETRM selection, ecosystem partners (Salesforce, Palantir and others), data architecture, AI model development and automation.

  • Enterprise Activation and Operational Readiness: operating model design, go-live strategy and capability build-out, so organisations can operate, trade and optimise from day one.

  • Commodity Sourcing and Exposure Management: sourcing, hedging and supplier strategy for commodity-exposed industries, optimising cost, risk and resilience under market volatility.

The Role

As a Strategy Manager, you will own the delivery of client engagements from scope to close, lead a team of consultants and analysts, and act as a trusted day-to-day advisor to senior client stakeholders. You will work closely with Senior Managers and Managing Directors to shape our solutions and grow our client relationships, and you will help build ACM's assets, offerings and thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement leadership

  • Lead engagements or major workstreams end to end, owning scope, quality, timelines, budget and the client relationship, with limited supervision.

  • Structure complex, ambiguous problems and translate them into clear analytical approaches and actionable, commercially grounded recommendations.

  • Lead client interviews and workshops, and present recommendations with confidence to senior executives, including delivering difficult messages with empathy.

  • Work on topics such as corporate and portfolio strategy, trading and risk management capability set-up, operating model design, commercial optimisation, investment valuation and financial structuring, balance sheet analysis, energy market liberalisation, the energy transition, and advanced numerical modelling of energy and commodity markets.

  • Use advanced analytics, machine learning and predictive modelling to interpret market signals and forecast trends, and combine them with data-science-led approaches to investment, trading and other quantitative decisions.

People and team

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of consultants and analysts, setting direction, giving regular feedback and fostering an inclusive environment of continuous learning and innovation.

Client and business development

  • Build long-term relationships with client stakeholders, staying attuned to their needs and style, and sustaining Accenture's position as a trusted advisor.

  • Identify and originate follow-on opportunities; lead proposal development and shape solutions with Partners, supported by industry and company research.

Firm contribution

  • Contribute to ACM UK, global ACM and the wider CEO Advisory community, including offerings, assets and thought leadership that bring fresh, challenging ideas to clients.

What You Bring

Essential

  • 5+ years of experience in consulting, the energy industry, commodity markets, investment banking or a closely related area, including experience leading workstreams or teams.

  • A degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science), or equivalent experience.

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative problem-solving skills, and experience structuring and navigating complex, abstract problem statements.

  • Working knowledge of recognised strategy frameworks and techniques.

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities, with the ability to collaborate and build an inclusive team environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting to senior audiences; fluency in English.

Desirable

  • Advanced degree or MBA.

  • Exposure to commodity trading, risk management, or investment and asset valuation.

  • Knowledge of asset-backed energy trading, capital project delivery, and portfolio allocation optimisation.

  • Proficiency in financial and analytical modelling.

  • Experience scoping or delivering AI- and analytics-enabled solutions, going beyond tool use and combined with quantitative modelling.

  • Experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx) or programming languages (R, Python, SQL).

  • Resilience and sound judgement in fast-paced, demanding client environments.
