About this Role

We are seeking an experienced API Developer with hands-on expertise in Apigee Edge, Apigee Hybrid, or Apigee X to design, develop, and deploy secure, scalable, and high-performing API solutions. This role is ideal for individuals with 4-5 years of experience in API development, API security, and integration technologies who are passionate about delivering reliable digital services through modern API management platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with architects, developers, and business stakeholders in an Agile environment while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance API proxies on the Apigee platform (Apigee Edge, Hybrid, or X).
  • Design, develop, deploy, and support RESTful and SOAP APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure API solutions meet functional and business requirements.
  • Implement and manage API policies for security, traffic management, throttling, and caching.
  • Create and maintain API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Configure and support security mechanisms including OAuth2, JWT, API Key, and SAML.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and industry best practices to safeguard applications and data.
  • Develop custom policies and integrations using JavaScript, Python, or Java callouts.
  • Diagnose and resolve API performance issues, latency concerns, errors, and vulnerabilities.
  • Contribute to Agile delivery practices and support quality-focused development.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Promote engineering best practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the team.

Who you are

  • 4-5 years of experience in API development and API management.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Apigee platforms and API security implementation.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and integrating RESTful and SOAP APIs with backend systems.
  • Strong understanding of API versioning, web services, JSON, and XML data formats.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing API proxies, shared flows, policies, and customisations within Apigee.
  • Good understanding of security, traffic management, and caching policies.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI and Swagger specifications.
  • Expertise in implementing OAuth2, JWT, API Key, and SAML-based security solutions.
  • Experience working within Agile environments; knowledge of SAFe is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with at least one relevant programming language, such as Java, Python, or Node.js.
  • Understanding of API performance optimisation, monitoring, DevOps practices, and automation.
  • Ability to produce high-quality, maintainable code and collaborate effectively within diverse teams.
