About this Role

We are seeking an experienced AWS Microservices and EKS Operations Specialist to take end-to-end ownership of the operational health, availability, performance, resilience and security of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services running on Amazon EKS/Kubernetes. This role is suited to an individual with extensive production support experience, strong cloud operations expertise, and a passion for service reliability, automation and continual improvement. The position plays a critical role in incident recovery, service stabilisation, problem management, observability and operational excellence across business-critical digital services.

What you will do

• Own the operational health, availability, performance, resilience and supportability of AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services.
• Serve as the senior technical specialist for complex application, API, container, networking, DNS and security incidents.
• Lead P1/P2 incident recovery activities, coordinate cross-functional troubleshooting and communicate business impact effectively to stakeholders.
• Drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, known error management and the elimination of recurring incidents.
• Troubleshoot AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, network ACLs, load balancers and connectivity paths.
• Investigate and resolve Route 53 DNS issues, health checks and routing policy challenges.
• Support AWS WAF operations, rule tuning, access log analysis and implementation of approved security changes.
• Monitor and troubleshoot Amazon EKS/Kubernetes clusters, nodes, pods, deployments, services, ingress configurations and autoscaling behaviours.
• Analyse logs, metrics, traces and API transaction data to identify and resolve service issues across distributed systems.
• Develop dashboards, alerts, runbooks and automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with application, DevOps, cloud platform, network, security, database and vendor teams to ensure service continuity and excellence. Mentor team members, promote knowledge sharing and support capability development across operational teams.

Who you are

• You bring 10+ years of IT operations or application support experience with responsibility for business-critical production services.
• You have proven experience supporting AWS-hosted microservices and REST API services in production environments.
• You possess strong operational knowledge of AWS, including hands-on troubleshooting of VPC, Route 53 and WAF services.
• You have practical experience managing Amazon EKS/Kubernetes workloads in production.
• You can diagnose API failures using logs, traces, status codes, authentication flows, network analysis and dependency mapping.
• You have experience leading major incidents, service recovery, operational readiness activities and service stabilisation initiatives.
• You demonstrate strong analytical thinking, stakeholder management, communication and technical leadership skills.
• You have experience with Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, observability platforms and modern monitoring practices.
• Exposure to CloudWatch, CloudTrail, IAM, ECR, ELB, Auto Scaling, Secrets Manager, Helm, Argo CD, GitOps, Terraform or CloudFormation would be advantageous.
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required. AWS and ITIL certifications are desirable.
