About this Role

We are seeking an experienced Transmission Network Operations Specialist to provide second-line operational support for access transmission networks in a multi-vendor environment supporting both Mobile (UK) and Enterprise (Ireland) networks. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, incident and change management, software and hardware lifecycle activities, vendor management, network optimisation, and implementation of network enhancements. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining service availability, improving network performance, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting the evolution of transmission networks across a broad range of transport technologies.

What you’ll do

  • Perform second-line operational support for access transmission networks in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Manage incidents, faults, service restoration, and change activities in accordance with agreed service levels.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across IP, optical, microwave, and transport networks.
  • Work with technologies including BGP, ISIS, MPLS, OSPF, SDH, DWDM, OTN, Carrier Ethernet, PDH and Microwave.
  • Support and manage network equipment from multiple vendors including Cisco, Nokia, Huawei, Ericsson, SIAE, ADVA, Alcatel, Marconi, Tellabs and other transmission platforms.
  • Execute software upgrades, hardware replacements, configuration activities, backup restoration and network element onboarding.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and validation of software releases before deployment into the production environment.
  • Develop and maintain technical methods of procedure (MOPs), operational documentation, and knowledge-sharing materials.
  • Support first-line operations teams through technical guidance, training and operational readiness activities.
  • Coordinate with planning, deployment, provisioning and field engineering teams for new site integrations, capacity upgrades and network resiliency projects.
  • Drive legacy network decommissioning and network modernisation initiatives, including IP transformation programmes.
  • Perform network health checks, trend analysis, performance monitoring and proactive maintenance activities.
  • Analyse alarms, logs and performance reports to identify issues and implement preventative and corrective actions.
  • Produce detailed root cause analyses for major service incidents and network outages.
  • Manage technical escalations with equipment vendors and coordinate issue resolution, bug fixes and corrective actions.
  • Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery activities to support network resilience and service restoration.

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in transmission network operations within a telecommunications environment.
  • Strong understanding of mobile network architecture including GSM, UMTS, LTE and 5G networks.
  • Extensive knowledge of transmission technologies including PDH, SDH, Carrier Ethernet, DWDM, OTN and Microwave.
  • Strong experience with routing and switching technologies and protocols including BGP, ISIS, MPLS and OSPF.
  • Good understanding of transport, signalling and security gateway environments.
  • Experience working with multi-vendor transmission and transport network platforms.
  • Proven ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and fault diagnosis across complex network environments.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures and implementation plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to network optimisation.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across operational, engineering and vendor teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment while maintaining service quality and reliability.
