What you’ll do

Role purpose:
The EHOD of M-Pesa Risk will be responsible to establish, lead, and continuously strengthen the Risk Management function at M-Pesa Mozambique, ensuring effective identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of risks across the business. The role provides independent oversight and assurance to the Managing Director, ExCo, Board, and Vodafone Group, safeguarding the company’s assets, reputation, and regulatory compliance while enabling sustainable business growth.

Key Accountabilities:

• Define and implement the overall Risk Management Framework, covering operational, financial, regulatory, technology, cyber security, compliance, market, and strategic risks.
• Lead the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) cycle, including risk identification, assessments, appetite setting, reporting, and mitigation monitoring.
• Establish and manage the Combined Assurance framework, ensuring alignment across Internal Audit, Compliance, Risk, and external assurance providers.
• Own the Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Crisis Management programme, including annual Business Impact Assessments, BC strategies, testing, and execution.
• Lead the Third-Party Risk Management framework: due diligence, mandatory clauses, performance monitoring, and critical supplier risk assessments.
• Provide independent risk assessments and recommendations for new products, partnerships, pricing models, and technology changes.
• Engage with regulators (Bank of Mozambique, Data Privacy Authority) to ensure compliance with risk, governance, and resilience requirements.
• Report risk exposures, key control gaps, and mitigation plans to ExCo, Risk Committee, and Board.
• Build and lead a professional Risk Management team, ensuring capability development and strong business partnering with other functions.


What we are looking in you:

• Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Law, or Business.
• Professional certifications in Risk (IRM, ISO 31000, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in Risk, Governance, or Compliance roles, with at least 5 in senior leadership.
• Fluency in English.
• Proven track record in Risk Management within telecoms, fintech, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise risk, operational risk, technology resilience, and compliance frameworks.
• Experience implementing BCM, crisis management, and combined assurance models.
• Ability to influence senior executives, Board, regulators, and Group stakeholders.
• High critical thinking, independence, and ability to balance business growth with risk appetite.
• Experience in emerging markets or highly regulated industries is an advantage.
• Strong people leadership, with ability to build capability and risk awareness across the organisation.
