Job Description

At Virgin Media O2, we're shaping the future of secure digital innovation, and the Information Security Manager plays a critical role in making that happen.

As a key member of our Security team, you'll be at the forefront of protecting and enabling some of the most exciting technology initiatives across the business, with a dedicated focus on Project Apex and the adoption of AI-powered solutions. Acting as a trusted security partner to delivery teams, architects, engineers and business stakeholders, you'll help embed security into the heart of innovation from day one.

In this role, you'll provide expert guidance, governance and risk-based decision-making to ensure new technologies, systems and AI use cases are delivered securely, responsibly and at pace. You'll influence the design and implementation of cutting-edge solutions, balancing business ambition with robust security controls, while helping to shape the standards, guardrails and best practices that will support the organisation's future technology landscape.

This is an exciting opportunity for a security professional who thrives on collaboration, enjoys solving complex challenges and is passionate about enabling innovation through security. You'll have the chance to make a real impact by driving security excellence across transformative programmes, helping Virgin Media O2 unlock the potential of emerging technologies while maintaining the trust of our customers, colleagues and partners.

Who we are

At Virgin Media O₂, we connect people to the moments that matter most. Virgin Media leads the UK for broadband reliability, speed and overall performance, while O₂ keeps people connected on the move with award-winning coverage.

We’re also proud to be named one of the Financial Times Top 500 Best Employers for 2026, based on one of the UK’s largest employee satisfaction surveys.

Join us and you’ll be part of a team that stays curious, positive and focused on making life easier for our customers and each other. We’re investing in the future of connectivity, from expanding next-generation 5G to exploring satellite-supported solutions that help reach rural communities and hard-to-connect places.

You’ll work with people who back good ideas and give you plenty of room to grow. So if you’re looking for a place where you can feel supported, trusted and genuinely valued, you’ll feel right at home here.

Our ways of working

We’re a flexible-first organisation, because we know people do their best work when they have choice and clarity. To support meaningful collaboration, we ask everyone to spend at least eight days a month connecting with each other in person.

That doesn’t just mean time in the office – it could be team meetings, offsites, volunteering days, cross-functional projects, or away days. What matters is making those moments count – so when we come together, it benefits everyone.

Accessible, inclusive and equitable for all

We believe a better tomorrow starts with the choices we make today. That means moving the dial on diversity, building equity into everything we do and putting inclusion at the heart of our business.

Virgin Media O₂ is an equal opportunities employer and we work hard to remove bias and barriers. We want every person who joins us – and everyone thinking about joining us – to feel seen, heard and supported.

When you work with us, you’ll have access to our award-winning employee network groups. These communities bring people together, champion allyship and create uplifting spaces where you can learn, share and feel part of something bigger. They play a big role in helping people feel connected from day one.

The must haves

In order to be considered for this role you must have the following experience:

  • Seasoned experience in Information Security, or equivalent expertise gained through a related technical discipline, with a proven track record of applying security controls and governance within complex technology transformation programmes.
  • Strong ability to identify, assess and manage security risks, vulnerabilities and exposures, including those associated with emerging technologies and AI-enabled services.
  • Deep understanding of information security risk management principles and the ability to translate business objectives into practical, effective security requirements and controls.
  • Knowledge of recognised security frameworks, standards and regulatory requirements such as ISO 27001, PCI DSS and GDPR, and experience applying them within a business environment.
  • Good technical understanding of security architecture, security tooling, DevSecOps practices, hybrid and multi-cloud environments, and the practical implementation of security controls.
  • Experience influencing security decisions, providing governance oversight and embedding security-by-design principles throughout the project lifecycle.

The other stuff we are looking for

We'd Also Love You to Bring

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage, influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism and emotional intelligence, with the confidence to challenge constructively when needed.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach, coupled with the ability to present balanced, risk-based recommendations to senior leaders and business stakeholders.
  • The ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on and pragmatic in supporting delivery teams to achieve business outcomes securely.
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation and consensus-building skills, with a focus on driving results and creating positive stakeholder experiences.
  • Confidence working across diverse teams and disciplines, building trusted partnerships with technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • A passion for continuous learning and staying ahead of evolving security, technology and AI trends.

What's in it for you

Our goal is to celebrate our people, their lives and everything in-between. We aim to create a culture that empowers everyone to bring the best versions of themselves to work each and every day. We believe the most inclusive and diverse culture makes for a better business and a brighter world. Working at Virgin Media O2, you get a bumper reward package bursting with benefits, and loads of extras you can add if you’d like to. These are designed to support both you and your loved ones, making sure that you’re covered no matter what life throws your way.

Next steps

If we feel like a place where you can belong, we'd love to learn more about you as a person and your experience to date. Once you've submitted an application the next steps of the process, if successful, are likely to include a Saville assessment, competency based interview with case study. When you apply, you'll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we'll be sure to discuss it with you. Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert, therefore we may bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks. All roles require a criminal record check and some roles need a financial probity check. Your recruiter can provide you with more information if needed. Thanks for your patience and for showing an interest in joining the Virgin Media O2 family.
