We are offering an exciting opportunity to join us as a Health & Safety Specialist in an international environment to advise and support the development of Wind and Solar in UK, with location in Hexham.

We are looking for a Health and Safety Specialist with knowlegde of developing Wind, Solar & Battery projects to support the safe devolpment of our upcoming Onshore Wind, Solar & Battery projects.

You will proactively support the project and procurement management by providing leadership whilst also demonstrating and promoting a responsible attitude towards health and safety.

As the Health & Safety Specialist your role is instrumental in enhancing health and safety practices within our development projects. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement the Business Area Wind HSE Management System. Additionally, you will drive contractor cooperation and evaluation.

With a focus on continuous improvement, you will prioritize targets and influence industry best practices, showcasing your expertise in H&S legislation and regulations. Your tasks and responsibilities encompass effective collaboration and adherence to Vattenfall's values and code of conduct.

The Health & Safety Specialist role will also contribute to ensure that Vattenfall and their contractors comply with health & safety legislation, Vattenfall standards and customer and site requirements.

Some of your tasks and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Give independent, authoritative, and high-quality advice to improve and manage health and safety knowledge and performance.
  • Support the Onshore Wind, Solar & Batteries project teams on implementation of the BA Wind HS&E Management System in cooperation with Environment & Sustainability Specialists and Quality Specialists.
  • Support assigned projects and coach assigned project team members to increase their H&S awareness and support them to fulfil their H&S responsibilities, whilst actively eliminating safety risks as early as possible in the project according to the Hierarchy of Controls and Technical Due Diligence (TDD) process.
  • Support and champion the Vattenfall Safety Culture Initiative.
  • Support project managers to drive completion of H&S deliverables:
    • Facilitate the hazard identification workshops and co-ordinate risks from previous risk assessments into project specific risk registers;
    • Influence and support during pre-work activities, such as reviewing of subcontractor method statements and risk assessment;
    • Support the Procurement process activities by undertaking contractor tender (BEQ/PQQ) selection process activities;
    • Evaluate contractor submissions against Vattenfall’s internal procedures, such as the Employer’s Requirements and HS&E Management System;
    • Process assigned accident & incident cases via Intelex system and support feedback through H&S learnings in the BA Wind lessons learned internal database.
  • Forecast upcoming workloads to ensure coverage across all assigned projects/tasks.
  • Align digital documents, update internal IT platforms in preparation for handover to Construction Teams.
  • On request, participate in BA Wind safety and sustainability assessments and incident investigations.

Drive Transformation and Continuious Improvement:

  • Understand the business strategies and support the business to continually improve H&S performance.
  • Bring in and influence industry best practice and promote H&S interests internally and externally.
  • Continuously evaluate, improve and promote the way of working as defined in the H&S Management system and be a strong advocate for continuous improvement of health and safety within the organisation.

Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in an international organisation

  • Knowledge of safety management
  • Full and detailed understanding of applicable H&S related legislation
  • Experience in managing contractors as clients and/or principal contractors
  • Ability to prioritize own workload and organize tasks in a time effective manner, excellent problem-solving skills
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office
  • Strong language skills in English are mandatory
  • Some travel will likely be required, although this will be both forward planned and agreed
